The authors have made liberal use of data culled from primary source materials found in repositories including Massachusetts libraries and historical societies, Gettysburg National Military Park records, and hundreds of soldiers' military and pension records from the National Archives. There is a plethora of photographs, and nine foldout maps are sewn into the binding. The book will be of interest to a wide range of audiences from Civil War scholars to general readers.
