¿Por qué teorizar la cooperación internacional desde la disciplina de las relaciones internacionales? ¿Qué función tienen las teorías? Y ¿cómo un estudiante de las relaciones internacionales puede utilizar las teorías para enriquecer sus investigaciones? Situada en el contexto de la celebración de los 100 años del nacimiento de la disciplina, en Aberystwyth, Gales (1919), el propósito de esta obra es contribuir al entendimiento de la cooperación internacional y su relación con la teorización en las relaciones internacionales. Asimismo, busca brindar una perspectiva integral de los elementos que propician la generación y evolución del conocimiento en la cooperación internacional desde las relaciones internacionales, para así fortalecerlo y posicionarlo como un campo dinámico y complejo que se puede apreciar con mayor claridad mediante herramientas analíticas para el estudio y comprensión de la realidad internacional. En cada capítulo, presentará una estructura semejante en forma de descripción de teorías que son las de mayor relevancia para las relaciones internacionales, de manera que pretende crear conciencia sobre las diferentes visiones del mundo respecto a la disciplina, y la relación que guardan con la cooperación internacional. Este diseño propiciará el entendimiento de la evolución de la cooperación internacional desde las relaciones internacionales hasta llegar al contexto actual de la globalización y las nuevas modalidades de cooperación internacional como la cooperación sur-sur, triangular, descentralizada y no gubernamental/nuevas diplomacias. Se analizará en cada caso cuáles son los componentes más distintivos de cada una de las teorías seleccionadas, buscando responder a las "piezas clave" para teorías; se mencionará a personalidades destacadas en el desarrollo de la teoría en cuestión, o más bien, de las diferentes perspectivas que se encuentran agrupadas dentro de una teoría principal. Finalmente, se citará algún ejemplo histórico que sirva para ilustrar cómo pueden ser explicados los casos de cooperación internacional, en sus múltiples vertientes, por la teoría en cuestión, de acuerdo a sus preceptos.

This publication argues that Latin America and the Caribbean are in a position to move towards a "big push for sustainability" through a combination of economic, industrial, social and environmental policies capable of driving an equal and sustainable recovery and relaunching development in the region. Comprised of five chapters, the publication studies the three crises (slow growth, growing inequality and the environmental emergency) affecting economies and societies around the world, placing particular focus on those of Latin America and the Caribbean. It goes on to present a framework for analysing these crises in an integrated manner and measuring their magnitude in the specified regions. It then examines the quantitative impacts on growth, emissions, income distribution and the external sector under different policy scenarios, highlighting the potential of various policy combinations to forge a more dynamic growth path, with lower emissions and greater equality. Further identifying seven sectors that can drive sustainable development and proposing policies to foster these sectors, the publication concludes with an analysis that links up macroeconomic, industrial, social and environmental policies and the role of the State in building consensus for their implementation.

"The world water problems are a due to bad governance, not to physical water scarcity." This book is inspired by this statement and explores whether it holds in a specific country, Spain, where climatic conditions – Spain is one of the most arid countries of the European Union - would fully justify saying that water problems are due to physical water scarcity. The metrification of water uses and their monetary value is a first important step in understanding how reallocation of water among users could help mitigating many of current water problems in Spain. However, water reallocation among users or from users to nature is far from simple. Initiatives portrayed as the solution to the water governance ‘jigsaw’ – e.g. water trade, improved water use efficiency, users collective action, public participation – are not free of difficulties and shortcomings. The book explores the growing need for maintaining Spain’s natural capital and the human component of water governance – people’s needs, wishes, (vested) interests, aspirations – that often determine the result of decisions and, sometimes, lead water management to a deadlock. This book takes a step forward in showing a more complex - and also closer to reality - picture of water governance in Spain.

The book identifies the specific ethical aspects of sustainability and develops ethical tools to analyze them. It also provides a methodological framework to integrate ethical and scientific analyses of sustainability issues, and explores the notion of a new type of self-reflective inter- and transdisciplinary sustainability research. With this, the book aims to strengthen the overall ability of academics to contribute to the analysis and solution of sustainability issues in an inclusive and integrated way.
