Commonwealth Law Ministers from 42 jurisdictions met in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago from 3 to 7 May 1999. Volume 1 contains the memoranda prepared for the meeting, together with the meeting's annotated draft agenda (which was adopted as the meeting's agenda) and the communique. Volume 2 contains additional memoranda.

Terrorism continues to evolve; altered sources of funding, changes in national governments and the ever increasing importance of the internet mean that international cooperation in the development and implementation of strategies to counteract terrorist activity remain an important priority worldwide. This book contains articles arising from the presentations by eleven experts from five countries, delivered at the NATO Centre of Excellence – Defence against Terrorism (COE-DAT) advanced training course (ATC) entitled Enhancing Cooperation in Defence against Terrorism, held in Astana, Kazakhstan, in September 2010. The aim of this ATC was to stimulate discussion and facilitate interoperability between these five countries and NATO in the fight against terrorism.The book opens with an overview of the landscape in which terrorism currently exists, and a reminder that a new approach is needed in the fight against terrorism to replace the Cold War model we have become accustomed to. The remaining articles cover a wide range of issues: countering the ideology of terrorism; legal aspects of combating terrorism and responding to terrorist use of the internet; the links between terrorism and organised crime; energy security; weapons of mass destruction; international humanitarian law; suicide terrorism; the role of the media in terrorism and counterterrorism; and dilemmas in counterterrorism strategy. In addition to the presentations from the ATC, the book includes two articles by Brigitte Nacos of Columbia University: The Importance of Strategic Communication and Public Diplomacy in Combating Terrorism, and Terrorism Media and Censorship.

The Commonwealth Yearbook is the flagship annual publication of the Commonwealth Secretariat. It is the essential reference guide to the countries, organizations, activities and values of the modern Commonwealth. The 2014 edition has been fully updated and includes reports from the 2013 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting; a directory of Commonwealth organizations; and extensive reference sections; and in-depth profiles on each of the 53 member countries.

This book provides a key reference on the role of the Commonwealth and its member states in relation to international humanitarian law (IHL). It provides insights in the implementation of IHL in Commonwealth states and, particularly, the challenges faced by small states. It examines the progressive development of IHL in the Commonwealth and provides an analysis of some of the landmark decisions emerging from the Special Court for Sierra Leone. The book was developed collaboratively between the Commonwealth Secretariat and the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. In this regard, it contains insights in the work of the Secretariat with regard to implementation of IHL and an assessment of legislation enacted by Commonwealth states as well as an accession chart to IHL instruments. It expounds on the work of the Movement, including the role of National Societies, the International Humanitarian Fact-Finding Commission, and the development of international disaster response law, rules and regulation. This book was based on a special issue of Commonwealth Law Bulletin.
