Psychotherapist Eliot Rosenstock proposes a philosophical foundation for mental health treatment based on the writings and ideas of Slavoj Zizek. Zizek in the Clinic examines the state of the psychotherapy profession, capital motivated reductionist treatment modalities and a philosophy of liberation for the therapeutic subject. With the acceleration of technological advancement reminiscent of the machine gun’s implementation in World War One, the contemporary subject can be benefited by a working knowledge of their own psyche so as not to be pulled in the direction of anything that provides comfort and vague entertainment. Zizek's analysis and application of Lacanian theory is a necessary component in the psychoanalytic fight for our own minds and our will to shape our own future in the deterritorialized hellscape of modern technocapital. Civilization has never known discontents like the ones currently wrought. This is not to say, Civilization is more brutal than it has ever been. Civilization is however, at a certain tipping point regarding technological information flow and the expansion of capital: a future demanding illusion. The answer isn’t a collapse of all ideology which we use to function in our day to day lives, but a clinical Zizekian lens.

The Desire of Psychoanalysis proposes that recognizing how certain theoretical and institutional problems in Lacanian psychoanalysis are grounded in the historical conditions of Lacan’s own thinking might allow us to overcome these impasses. In order to accomplish this, Gabriel Tupinambá analyzes the socioeconomic practices that underlie the current institutional existence of the Lacanian community—its political position as well as its institutional history—in relation to theoretical production. By focusing on the underlying dynamic that binds clinical practice, theoretical work, and institutional security in Lacanian psychoanalysis today, Tupinambá is able to locate sites for conceptual innovation that have been ignored by the discipline, such as the understanding of the role of money in clinical practice, the place of analysands in the transformation of psychoanalytic theory, and ideological dead-ends that have become common sense in the Lacanian field. The Desire of Psychoanalysis thus suggests ways of opening up psychoanalysis to new concepts and clinical practices and calls for a transformation of how psychoanalysis is understood as an institution.

Psychoanalysis is a strange and mysterious practice. In his new book, Ian Parker offers insights into his own experiences, first as trainee then as analyst, the common assumptions about psychoanalysis which can be so misleading, as well as a map of the key debates in the field today. Beginning with his own history, at first avoiding psychoanalysis before training as a Lacanian, Parker moves on to explore the wider historical development of clinical practice, making an argument for the importance of language, culture and history in this process. The book offers commentary on the key schools of thought, and how they manifest in the practice of psychoanalysis in different regions around the world. Psychoanalysis, Clinic and Context will be of great value to practitioners and social theorists who want to know how psychoanalytic ideas play out in training and the clinic, for trainees and students of psychoanalysis or psychoanalytic psychotherapy, and for the general reader who wants to know what psychoanalysis is and how it works.

The Ego And Its Hyperstate is a unified theory of psychological and ethical egoism which posits self-interest. The dialectical dream theory sets its sights against capitalist notions of the self-interest contra the other, not simply with moralism, but with a more accurate analysis of the subject of self-interest than has been provided by capitalists and anarchist theorists alike. Through the lens of psychoanalysis and Hegelian dialectical logic, the process of self-interest as the ground of all human existence reveals itself. Eliot Rosenstock has a symptom he wants you to know about: he wants you to know how the nature of self-interest strikes through the notions of pure duty and state worship, he wants to bring in psychoanalyis and redeem dialectics in its power to reveal the universe rather than be a simple rhetorical tool, and he wants to reveal to you how the material conditions of the world, as well as psychological processes of mankind, work together to bring about all that is brought into the universe by humanity.

Afterword by Slajov Zizek It has been the brilliance of Slovenian philosopher Slavoj Zizek (b. 1949) to uniquely weave theology, psychoanalysis, and politics together into stunning commentary on contemporary culture. Assuming little prior knowledge of this controversial (atheist, communist) philosopher, Marcus Pound provides the first comprehensive, systematic account of Zizek's work as it relates specifically to theology and religious studies.
