The first of two volumes of a biography of William Cobbett (1763-1835), the English pamphleteer, farmer and journalist who wrote widely on a range of subjects from political reform to religion but is best-known for 'Rural Rides', published serially in the 1820s and in book form in 1830, which remains in print today. First published in 1878.
