This study was designed to shed light an under-researched field, the pressures of working in a grammar school. The existing literature on this subject is best described as minimal. Therefore, the literature cited is often adapted or relates to the topic of general academic pressure, but not exclusively about grammar schools. Its purpose was to be used for academic and professional reference and should be viewed as a case study into a narrow and specific field. The findings of the study illustrated that Able Gifted and Talented students were largely unaffected by national examination estimates, in this instance Fischer Family Trust grades, but appeared to thrive on other pressures, such as internal aspirations. However, teachers seemed to feel stressed and pressurised by the expectations of such estimates and regarded them very negatively on the whole.

Samuel Lebrun is a 15-year-old boy born in Canada who now lives in California with his Mexican father. His pregnant French mother and his unborn brother died in a car accident when he was just 7 years old. Samuel is good with numbers and is also able to speak English, French, and Spanish, but he is special because of something else: he often has precognitive dreams. He doesn’t know how to control them or when he will have one, but they warn him about upcoming dangers. The problem with these dreams is that they always manifest themselves in the form of allegories, so at times, it’s really hard for the boy to understand what they mean until it is already too late. Right on the day when he starts to study at Derphen International High School, there is an explosion in one of the hallways he was about to enter. Later on, he will discover that the explosion was meant to kill him and his friends, but since the goal was not achieved, they will suffer a series of mysterious accidents that will attempt to end their lives. With the help of his British friend John Williams, his French-American friend Edward Thompson, and his Japanese-American friend Hiyori Tsukishiro, Samuel will have to find out who is causing these accidents—that keep occurring during their semester abroad in Paris—before the culprit manages to murder him or his loved ones. Who is behind the accidents? Why do they want to kill them? Will Samuel and his friends manage to escape from all the accidents? Join the four friends in the first part of the trilogy that will eventually take you all over the world!
