This book provides an overview of recent developments in web theory. Webs (i.e. families of foliations in general position) appear in many different fields of mathematics (differential geometry, algebraic geometry, differential equations, symplectic geometry, etc.) and physics (mechanics, geometrical optics, etc.). After giving a survey on webs in differential geometry and algebraic geometry, the book presents new results on partial differential equations, integrable systems, holomorphic dynamics and nonlinear optics obtained through web theory.

Web Theory is a comprehensive and critical introduction to the theories of the internet and the world wide web. Robert Burnett and P. David Marshall examine the key debates which surround internet culture, from issues of globalisation, political economy and regulation, to ideas about communication, identity and aesthetics. Web Theory explore the shifts in society, culture and the media which have been brought about by the growth of the world wide web. It identifies significant readings, web sites and hypertext archive sources which illustrate the critical discussion about the internet and it mediates these discussions, indicating key positions within each debate and pointing the reader to key texts. Web Theory includes: *Chapters showing how specific media have been affected by the internet *Boxed case studies and examples *References, an extensive bibliography and a list of web sites *A glossary of key terms with important words highlighted in the text *A Web Theory timeline which details important events *A comprehensive and regularly updated website at www.webtheory.nu with inks and support material

The Nevanlinna theory of value distribution of meromorphic functions, one of the milestones of complex analysis during the last century, was c- ated to extend the classical results concerning the distribution of of entire functions to the more general setting of meromorphic functions. Later on, a similar reasoning has been applied to algebroid functions, subharmonic functions and meromorphic functions on Riemann surfaces as well as to - alytic functions of several complex variables, holomorphic and meromorphic mappings and to the theory of minimal surfaces. Moreover, several appli- tions of the theory have been exploited, including complex differential and functional equations, complex dynamics and Diophantine equations. The main emphasis of this collection is to direct attention to a number of recently developed novel ideas and generalizations that relate to the - velopment of value distribution theory and its applications. In particular, we mean a recent theory that replaces the conventional consideration of counting within a disc by an analysis of their geometric locations. Another such example is presented by the generalizations of the second main theorem to higher dimensional cases by using the jet theory. Moreover, s- ilar ideas apparently may be applied to several related areas as well, such as to partial differential equations and to differential geometry. Indeed, most of these applications go back to the problem of analyzing zeros of certain complex or real functions, meaning in fact to investigate level sets or level surfaces.

Charles M. (Chuck) Newman has been a leader in Probability Theory and Statistical Physics for nearly half a century. This three-volume set is a celebration of the far-reaching scientific impact of his work. It consists of articles by Chuck’s collaborators and colleagues across a number of the fields to which he has made contributions of fundamental significance. This publication was conceived during a conference in 2016 at NYU Shanghai that coincided with Chuck's 70th birthday. The sub-titles of the three volumes are: I. Spin Glasses and Statistical Mechanics II. Brownian Web and Percolation III. Interacting Particle Systems and Random Walks The articles in these volumes, which cover a wide spectrum of topics, will be especially useful for graduate students and researchers who seek initiation and inspiration in Probability Theory and Statistical Physics.

The World Wide Web has become an extremely popular way of publishing and distributing electronic resources. Though the Web is rich with information, collecting and making sense of this data is difficult because it is rather unorganized. Building an Intelligent Web introduces students and professionals to the state-of-the art development of Web Intelligence techniques and teaches how to apply these techniques to develop the next generation of intelligent Web sites. Each chapter contains theoretical bases, which are also illustrated with the help of simple numeric examples, followed by practical implementation. Students will find Building an Intelligent Web to be an active and exciting introduction to advanced Web mining topics. Topics covered include Web Intelligence, Information Retrieval, Semantic Web, Classification and Association Rules, SQL, Database Theory, Applications to e-commerce and Bioinformatics, Clustering, Modeling Web Topology, and much more!
