I grew up listening to stories, which taught me about right and wrong, and also fostered my love of storytelling. Who hasn’t been told stories as a child? We all have connections to the stories we carry from our childhood to adulthood. We all have a story to tell... Vol. I: Trilogy of the Special Ones, is essentially three shorts about three super female heroes. The protagonist in each story triumphs over three life-changing scenarios from a child, an adolescent, and finally as a young successful woman. In each scenario, she is faced with major decisions and must act under pressure to make the right decisions. This is a book about self-discovery. This is not the answer to peer pressure but it can raise awareness. It is a moral story and a literature lesson about “curiosity kills the cat” but the cat has nine lives; this is the gist of what happens to young adults who face perils while traveling in dangerous territory. I think the best stories come from the heart and real-life situations. I rely on my experiences to tell my stories. While sitting at my grandfather’s feet, he was of native heritage and was the master storyteller who taught me about my cultural folklore. My voice narrates these stories that connect the moral dilemmas young women experience with daily peer pressures as they reach adulthood to maturity. My trio of short stories centers on three primary characters---Bellania, Bobby Jean, and Amanda. They are all beautiful, curious, vulnerable, and fierce because they are the special ones protected with inner gifts. These are stories about making the right choices with a flair for the supernatural, mythological, and guardian angel themes. It crosses all ages, cultures, and genres based on folklore with a modern twist. I love the notion of unveiling the many masks we wear especially when the risks in life become greater. The character arc in each plot progressively builds under pressure and gradually reveals the true nature of each young woman as the special ones with special powers. It is spiced with a touch of magic realism from rural folklore, oral traditions, and superstitions.

Here, in one volume, are Roddy Doyle's three acclaimed novels about the Rabbitte family from Barrytown, Dublin. In them we follow the rapid rise of Jimmy Rabbitte's soul band, the Commitments, and their equally rapid fall; Sharon Rabbitte's attempts to keep the identity of her unborn child's father a secret, amid intense speculation from her family and friends; and the fortunes of the travelling fish 'n' chips van that Jimmy Rabbitte Sr and his friend Bimbo launch for the good people of Barrytown. 'Mr Doyle has made his own the gritty world of modern Dublin' New York Times 'An absurd comedy of the commonplace...a charming, truthful and immensely funny story which leaves you gasping for more' Sunday Times on The Commitments 'A superb creation, exploding with cheerful chauvinism and black Celtic humour... You finish the book hungry for more' The Times on The Snapper 'A wonderfully funny book, that crackles and spits like fat in the fryer. Decades of war started by a genocidal faction of aliens threatens the existence of any human or alien resisting their rule on Earth. Dani survives by scavenging enough supplies to live another day while avoiding the local military and human-hunting Wardens. But then she learns that she is part of the nearly immortal alien race of Echoes—not the human she’s always thought herself to be—and suddenly nothing in her life seems certain. Following her discovery of her alien roots, Dani risks her well-being to save a boy from becoming a slave—a move that only serves to make her already-tenuous existence on the fringes of society in Maine even more unstable, and which forces her to revisit events and people from past lives she can’t remember. Dani believes the only way to defeat the Wardens and end their dominance is to unite the Commonwealth’s military and civilians, and she becomes resolved to play her part in this battle. Her attempts to change the bleak future facing the humans and Echoes living on Earth suffering under the Wardens will lead her to clash with a tyrant determined to kill her and all humankind—a confrontation that even her near-immortal heritage may not be able to help her survive.
