This bilingual vocabulary includes the majority of the most common words in the Totontepec Mixe language (Oaxaca, Mexico). The entries in both the Mixe-Spanish and Spanish-Mixe sections include translation equivalents with different senses and subentries for derived forms. Following the body of the vocabulary, there is an appendix with notes on the grammar and two appendices that provide focus on specific semantic domains: kinship terms and terms for flora and fauna.

The significance of food and feasting to Pre-Columbian Mesoamerican cultures has been extensively studied by archaeologists, anthropologists and art historians.
