'Virgin Soil' is a novel by Ivan Turgenev. The story follows a group of young people in 19th-century Russia who reject their societal norms and become members of the Populist movement. Alexey Dmitrievich Nezhdanov, an illegitimate son of an aristocrat, is one of the central characters who seeks to radicalize the peasantry and involve them in political action. He becomes a tutor to Kolya, the son of a local politician, and falls in love with Marianna, the niece of the family. Turgenev's final and longest novel, Virgin Soil, is a masterpiece that explores the struggles of young Russians who aim to change their world.
