Royal Della Jane’s Journey of Life Uncensored By: Della Jane Buckley In Royal Della Jane’s Journey of Life Uncensored, author Della Jane Buckley brings a much-needed grab-you-by-the-shoulders moment of real talk, filled with entertaining stories, profanity, and ruthless humor. This manifestation is a refreshing slap in the face for all of us, so that we can start to lead more contented, grounded lives. When she first wrote the book in February 24, 2010, Della Jane had all her real experiences included but the publisher wanted them removed because they were a Christian publisher. She had included profanity and very unpleasant vulvar experiences. Over the past ten years, her friends taunted her about not telling the full story of her life’s experiences. So, after many years of debate and agony, she came to the reality of what the hell, just tell the unadulterated truth. Della Jane’s mother would always say, “Bitch, just tell the truth.” So, in the author’s own words: “Here’s the real deal. I know this is going to be a shocker to the entire community and particularly the church community, but I want to put this out there. This version might help save a life.”

Cure Models: Methods, Applications and Implementation is the first book in the last 25 years that provides a comprehensive and systematic introduction to the basics of modern cure models, including estimation, inference, and software. This book is useful for statistical researchers and graduate students, and practitioners in other disciplines to have a thorough review of modern cure model methodology and to seek appropriate cure models in applications. The prerequisites of this book include some basic knowledge of statistical modeling, survival models, and R and SAS for data analysis. The book features real-world examples from clinical trials and population-based studies and a detailed introduction to R packages, SAS macros, and WinBUGS programs to fit some cure models. The main topics covered include the foundation of statistical estimation and inference of cure models for independent and right-censored survival data, cure modeling for multivariate, recurrent-event, and competing-risks survival data, and joint modeling with longitudinal data, statistical testing for the existence and difference of cure rates and sufficient follow-up, new developments in Bayesian cure models, applications of cure models in public health research and clinical trials.

This report evaluates alternative statistical models of the demand for medical care. The report discusses the estimation problems, the alternative models considered, and the choice of a final model. Chapter 2 briefly describes the design of the Health Insurance Study, which is the source of the data, and the sample. Chapter 3 provides a rationale for and description of each of the models considered, and Chap. 4 indicates the sensitivity of the empirical results to the estimation model. Chapter 5 compares the models empirically in terms of forecast bias and mean squared forecast error, using a split-sample technique. Chapter 6 summarizes the findings of this study.

From the Olympics to the World Cup, mega sporting events are a source of enjoyment for tens of thousands, but can also be a source of intense debate and controversy. This insightful new Handbook addresses a number of central questions, including: How are host cities selected and under what economic conditions? How are these events organized, and how is local resistance overcome? Based on historical and empirical experience, what are the pitfalls for the organizers of these events? What are the potential economic benefits, including any international image effects? How can the costs be minimized and the benefits maximized for host cities and countries? How do these mega events impact the challenges of globalization and what is their environmental legacy? Compiled and edited by two internationally renowned sports economists, the expert contributions elaborate on the specific mechanisms of the bid processes, analyse the determining factors of winning bids, and illustrate how to construct future bid campaigns. Underpinned by case studies from four continents and by theoretical considerations, the reasons for seemingly systemic cost overruns are explored and analysed, as are the effects on national and regional employment and income, property values, non-traditional economic variables (such as psychological and marketing benefits) and urban branding and transformation. The Handbook also reflects on important elements of design of the games in order to better plan, prepare and allocate resources – including, for example, sustainability issues and the use of campaigns to secure positive perceptions. This book provides an up-to-date analysis of the financing and economic impact of mega sporting events, as well as a full discussion of how host cities can maximize the benefits from their experience. As such, it will prove a fascinating read for academics, students, researchers and policymakers with an interest in economics and public sector economics generally, and more specifically, in the economics of sport.
