Welcome to the tween years!Tween girls (anywhere from 9 to 13 years of age) are beginning to think of themselves, their friends, even God in different ways. They are asking questions like:What's unique about me?What's happening to my body? How do I handle my emotions?Who are my friends? What about technology? How can I know God?The Treasured Journal is designed to help girls think about these questions and to create opportunities for meaningful conversations between moms and daughters. Each topic (identity, body, emotions, friendships, technology, faith) has five days of things to think about, talk about, doodle, and do (plus things for moms to do, too).Moms and daughters can take this journey of discovery together, and both will walk away with new tools for life, a deeper connection, and along the way, discover just how treasured every daughter is.The Treasured Journal can be used by itself or with the companion study, Treasured: A 6 Session Experience for Moms and Tween Daughters. It is for moms and daughters, or small groups of moms and daughters.Treasured is a collaboration between Courtney DeFeo and Parent Cue. To find out more, visit TreasuredStudy.com or TheParentCue.org.

What happens when ritual practitioners from a small Pacific nation make an intellectual property claim to bungee jumping? When a German company successfully sues to defend its trademark of a Māori name? Or when UNESCO deems ephemeral sand drawings to be "intangible cultural heritage"? In Treasured Possessions, Haidy Geismar examines how global forms of cultural and intellectual property are being redefined by everyday people and policymakers in two markedly different Pacific nations. The New Hebrides, a small archipelago in Melanesia managed jointly by Britain and France until 1980, is now the independent nation-state of Vanuatu, with a population that is more than 95 percent indigenous. New Zealand, by contrast, is a settler state and former British colony that engages with its entangled Polynesian and British heritage through an ethos of "biculturalism" that is meant to involve an indigenous population of just 15 percent. Alternative notions of property, resources, and heritage—informed by distinct national histories—are emerging in both countries. These property claims are advanced in national and international settings, but they emanate from specific communities and cultural landscapes, and they are grounded in an awareness of ancestral power and inheritance. They reveal intellectual and cultural property to be not only legal constructs but also powerful ways of asserting indigenous identities and sovereignties.

Have you ever felt unlovable? Have you ever felt useless? Do you feel burdened by fear and consumed with thoughts of insecurity? Friends, this is not the quality of life God intended for you to live. The Creator of the universe fashioned you with love and purpose. He formed you out of nothingness and instilled you with spiritual gifts and divine potential to bring His light into the world. You are loved so deeply, God sacrificed His Son to save you. You are so important, God entrusted you to be a steward of His Son's own glorious attributes. You have been called to freedom. You hold within your heart the power that raised Christ from the grave, to cast out the enemy's deceptions that tell you that you are worthless. The God of heaven pursues your heart because that is what He sees when He looks at you. He sees purity when you see filthiness. God sees purpose where you feel pain. God says you are worthy of love and complete in Christ when you say you are a failure and not good enough. Treasured will reveal to you the beauty your Creator sees when He sets His eyes on you. As you read, you will be encouraged to set your eyes on His truth. Like a diamond in a dark cave, you radiate with unfathomable value in this dark world. Like a rare gem, you are desirable in the eyes of your Maker. As you read each section, indulge in the precious knowledge you will gain as you come to understand that you were created to shine. Your sufferings might have left you feeling tattered, torn, and unusable, but this devotional serves to uncover the truth that you are more than what society and your past dictates. You are precious, purposeful, and you are treasured!
