The authoritative biography of Henrietta Szold, founder of Hadassah, introduces a new generation to a remarkable leader who fought for womenÕs rights and the poor. Born in Baltimore in 1860, Henrietta Szold was driven from a young age by the mission captured in the concept of tikkun olam, Òrepair of the world.Ó Herself the child of immigrants, she established a night school, open to all faiths, to teach English to Russian Jews in her hometown. She became the first woman to study at the Jewish Theological Seminary, and was the first editor for the Jewish Publication Society. In 1912 she founded Hadassah, the international womenÕs organization dedicated to humanitarian work and community building. A passionate Zionist, Szold was troubled by the JewishÐArab conflict in Palestine, to which she sought a peaceful and equitable solution for all. Noted Israeli historian Dvora Hacohen captures the dramatic life of this remarkable woman. Long before anyone had heard of intersectionality, Szold maintained that her many political commitments were inseparable. She fought relentlessly for womenÕs place in Judaism and for health and educational networks in Mandate Palestine. As a global citizen, she championed American pacifism. Hacohen also offers a penetrating look into SzoldÕs personal world, revealing for the first time the psychogenic blindness that afflicted her as the result of a harrowing breakup with a famous Talmudic scholar. Based on letters and personal diaries, many previously unpublished, as well as thousands of archival documents scattered across three continents, To Repair a Broken World provides a wide-ranging portrait of a woman who devoted herself to helping the disadvantaged and building a future free of need.

This new approach introduces Kabbalah as a spiritual Jewish way of living, a practical wisdom for living, creativity and well being, and not merely a religious phenomenon or esoteric theology. Professor Shokek suggests that the Kabbalistic theme of Creation is the central ingredient in the spiritual teachings of Jewish mysticism. He skilfully reveals the core questions that emerge from the wisdom of the Jewish sages, opening up a lively avenue of debate in this increasingly popular area of study.

While there were many protests in the 1950s—against racial segregation, economic inequality, urban renewal, McCarthyism, and the nuclear buildup—the movements that took off in the early 1960s were qualitatively different. They were sustained, not momentary; they were national, not just local; they changed public opinion, rather than being ignored. Women Who Invented the Sixties tells the story of how four women helped define the 1960s and made a lasting impression for decades to follow. In 1960, Ella Baker played the key role in the founding of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee, which became an essential organization for students during the civil rights movement and the model for the antiwar and women’s movements. In 1961, Jane Jacobs published The Death and Life of Great American Cities, changing the shape of urban planning irrevocably. In 1962, Rachel Carson published Silent Spring, creating the modern environmental movement. And in 1963, Betty Friedan wrote The Feminine Mystique, which sparked second-wave feminism and created lasting changes for women. Their four separate interventions helped, together, to end the 1950s and invent the 1960s. Women Who Invented the Sixties situates each of these four women in the 1950s—Baker’s early activism with the NAACP and the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, Jacobs’s work with Architectural Forum and her growing involvement in neighborhood protest, Carson’s conservation efforts and publications, and Friedan’s work as a labor journalist and the discrimination she faced—before exploring their contributions to the 1960s and the movements they each helped shape.

THE BLIND SHALL SEE This adventure/fantasy is an intellectuals delight concerning a Queen of fairies and her civilization seeking aid from the village of Morbidity that has captured the picture perfect ideal of how to live with one another. The vampire Honoree, and his brood that dwells in caves is tired of feeding on animals, yet must renew every full moon with the town of Morbidity a pact that they will not feed on any villager and drink the dark water of the blood of the sacrifice of a bull to seal the agreement. War looms on the outskirts of the village, that has known only peace, for their God Noram has betrayed them and the spirit of the trees they have relied on has becomes his lover. Intellectual arguments surface between the fairy queen and the elder sanctified one as to the best way to live a moral life that is not ripe with suffering. Power and ego surface as the dragon weeps tears for his army that they not go into battle against a race of perfect men, and the dragons god Amness pleads that the two armies surrender to one another before going into battle and surprisingly, they do. What is revealed at the surrender is that in just about every little thing they hated one another for, they possessed as well. The sanctified one reveals to the fairy queen, that only through surrender can a vision be realized, can reality be accurately witnessed, but to do this thing was often quite costly.

After the success of his spiritual memoir, The Egotist, Jesse Bogner used his tools of perception to write articles about the climate of the world. This compilation is more than merely the sum of its parts. It’s a journey through the mind of someone’s spiritual transformation commenting on the corporeal plane of existence. From Trump, to anti-Semitism, to Israel, Bogner uses the issues of his time to express the hidden nature of reality. In Bogner’s words: I began writing articles about politics and the spiritual roots of a world in crisis. A world of contradictions that reveals the flawed development of man using rational systems. These rational systems that cannot cope with an irrational world and the seemingly irrational nature of the creatures that inhabit it. It began as supplemental work to the novel I was working on, before becoming an obsession, a calling from above. The more I explored political tropes, the more my perception changed. The earth is crying out for its correction and Kabbalah is its remedy. Kabbalah is the method to reveal “the world to come” in one’s lifetime. A tool that connects the corporeal world to the spiritual plane that contains a memory of and all the force of all the great spiritual titans of Israel.
