This book covers the historical perspective and physiological background of the role of thyroid hormones. In both specific target tissues and during development, it provides clinical perspectives and physiological and developmental implications of the interactions between retinoid and vitamin D3 signalling pathways.

This text discusses the regulation of the expression of liver-specific genes in the hepatocyte. The first part of the book is a general survey of liver organization and biology. The second part details the strategies used to control the transcription of several liver-specific genes involved in different liver functions (production of sero- and lipoproteins, detoxification and response to inflammation). These studies converged toward the characterization of several families of liver-enriched transcription factors (HNF1, HBF4, C/EBP, DBP) which are described in the third part of the book.
