The text presents advances in the field of thermal claddings for protection against erosion, corrosion, and wear in hydraulic turbines, automobiles, agricultural equipment, power plant, chemical industries, and jet engines. It further discusses different cladding techniques such as electron beam, oxyfuel, arc welding processes, and microwave hybrid heating. It explains the mechanism for failure of materials and cladding and emphasizes the protection mechanism. This book: ·Discusses the design and simulation of thermal claddings and the use of algorithms to predict the process parameters and performance of developed clads using artificial intelligence and machine learning. ·Presents the tribological behaviour of novel wear-resistant thermal claddings for the components used in construction, mining, drilling, and hydropower plant. ·Showcases high-temperature oxidation, corrosion, and erosion-resistant thermal claddings for power plants, the automotive sector, and jet engines. ·Highlights the application of the thermal cladding process in remelting the existing surface to enhance the surface properties. ·Examines post-heat treatment procedures on thermal claddings for improving the microstructure and tribological properties. The text is primarily written for senior undergraduate, graduate students, and academic researchers in the fields of mechanical engineering, manufacturing engineering, industrial engineering, and production engineering.

This volume presents new methodologies for the design of dimension stone based on the concepts of structural design while preserving the excellence of stonemasonry practice in façade engineering. Straightforward formulae are provided for computing action on cladding, with special emphasis on the effect of seismic forces, including an extensive general methodology applied to non-structural elements. Based on the Load and Resistance Factor Design Format (LRDF), minimum slab thickness formulae are presented that take into consideration stress concentrations analysis based on the Finite Element Method (FEM) for the most commonly used modern anchorage systems. Calculation examples allow designers to solve several anchorage engineering problems in a detailed and objective manner, underlining the key parameters. The design of the anchorage metal parts, either in stainless steel or aluminum, is also presented.

The Building Envelope: Applications of New Technology Cladding provides an introduction to the state of the art in cladding systems. The goal is to show a precedent, and thus imbue confidence in architects so that they can approach a manufacturer with a reasonable working knowledge of what is feasible. This book contains 33 case studies of buildings which incorporate newer forms of construction technology. The buildings discussed include the Bandstand at Haarlem, Holland; Benthem and Crouwel's House at Almere, a town near Amsterdam, Holland; the Burrell Gallery in Glasgow, Scotland; Clarke Ascot House, Brisbane, Australia; the Conservatory at Kew, southwest London; and the Johnson and Johnson World Headquarters, New Brunswick, New Jersey. This book is intended to give at least some inspiration to designers wishing to improve their technical understanding of the newer building processes with which they are now involved and have the information available if they care to seek it.
