'There's a Monster in Marvin' is a children's picture book about a boy who had a traumatic experience: "Something bad happened to Marvin." But, since he never told anyone about his experience - "He didn't tell his mother, and the monster grew. He didn't tell his father, and the monster grew. He didn't even tell his teacher, but I knew...." - there was no remedy for his problem, and he began to act out in dangerous ways. He yelled at his parents, hit his little brother, broke all his toys, and was insolent with his teacher. He even tried to commit suicide in various ways. In order for Marvin to be able to heal from his emotional problem, he had to learn to like himself, since children who have had a traumatic experience tend to blame themselves for what happened to them (separation from one or both parents, physical and emotional neglect, or sexual molestation) and this book is intended to be a 'door opener' for children who are suffering the monsters inside of them.

A Sasquatch and a young boy deal with monsters, stereotypes, and cultural misunderstandings in this follow-up to Big Foot and Little Foot. Hugo is a young Sasquatch. Boone is a young boy. After an unlikely encounter, they’ve become an even unlikelier pair of best friends. After saving up his Monster Card wrappers, Hugo sends away for a special prize in the mail—a Monster Detector! Using the watchlike device, Hugo quickly spots a monster right in his own cavern. Spooked, Hugo heads to school and finds yet another surprise—his friend Boone! Boone announces he wants to go to Sasquatch school, but no human has ever gone before, and not everyone is as happy about it as Hugo. Boone’s first day of school gets off to a rocky start, but Hugo doesn’t have much time to worry before he makes another monster sighting and takes off after the creature. What follows are even more surprises, ones that have Hugo and Boone rethinking what it really means to be a “monster.” “A lovely story of using empathy to work through culture clashes.” —Kirkus Reviews

This story centers around a young monster who is afraid of the light. Marvin is a young monster who lives in a very special place called Ghoul City. In this city, life is a little different from what you and I are used to. Monsters are nocturnal; which means that they like to play at night and sleep during the day. As this young monster stays up past his bedtime, he peers out of his window and is frightened by how different everything is. He makes a variety of comparisons between the night and the day. When the situation becomes too overwhelming, he runs to his parents for comfort. His father brings him to bed and proceeds to tuck him in for a second time. They have a heart-to-heart, with his father explaining that a great monster is not necessarily fearless, but courageous. He learns the value of overcoming his fears and finds a special way to fall back asleep.
