The Battle of EdgeHill of 22 October 1642 was the first great engagement of the English Civil War. It was fought in the open fields between the villages of Radway and Kineton in Warwickshire. At the end of the day, although neither side at Edgehill could claim a decisive victory, the result was that Charles "won" in so far as the road to London was now open to him. However, Charles did not take advantage of his opportunity. His natural caution asserted itself, and by the time his troops reached Reading, Essex had regained London and a fresh force of men prevented any further royalist advance. Charles never again had so clear an opportunity to take London as he did after Edgehill. New Unpublished finest colour plates!!!

If you're a history nerd, you will love this book. It's a firsthand account of the battle at Gettysburg from the perspective of a Young 14-year-old resident who tried to flee the inevitable battle by going to a neighbor's home on the outskirts of town (the Jacob Weikert farm). Instead she ended up square and center of it for the three days, helping care for the wounded in that farmhouse basement. Fascinating. Horrific. Scandalous. It's a super fast read. Bought it at Gettysburg, read it just in two-hour. This is a rich and wonderful variation of the original Tillie's account of the battle. Several great Brady's and other colored photos with incredible details are added. Them make a superb and unmissable book! This book is based on: At Gettysburg, or, What a Girl Saw and Heard of the Battle. A True Narrative. By Mrs. Matilda "Tillie" Pierce Alleman (1848-1914). New York, W. Lake Borland, 1889, and on Soldiershop book: American Civil war 150 years & 150 photos by Luca Stefano Cristini . No effort has been made to modernize or standardize the spelling used in the original text of Mrs. Pierce Alleman.

On April 14, 1865, the night of President Lincoln’s assassination, Booth’s conspirator Lewis Powell attempted to assassinate Secretary of State William Seward in his home just blocks from Ford’s Theatre. The attack, which left Seward and his son seriously wounded, is recounted in poignant detail in Fanny Seward’s diary. Fanny, the beloved only daughter of Seward, was a keen observer, and her diary entries from 1858 to 1866 are the foundation of Krisher’s vivid portrait of the young girl who was an eyewitness to one of the most tumultuous periods in American history. Fanny offers intimate observations on the politicians, generals, and artists of the time. She tells of attending dinner parties, visiting troops, and going to the theater, often alongside President Abraham Lincoln and his wife Mary. Through Fanny’s writings, Krisher not only skillfully brings to life the events and activities of a progressive political family but also illuminates the day-to-day drama of the war. Giving readers a previously unseen glimpse into the era, Fanny Seward: A Life broadens our understanding of Civil War America.
