For many readers the Epistle to the Hebrews is among the most difficult books of the New Testament. Korean scholar Bong Chur Shin’s work provides a welcome insight into interpretive issues for the biblical scholars. The book provides an exegetical framework which helps readers navigate the meaning of the text. Shin examines the epistle in the light of the New Testament’s ‘New Exodus’ imagery. This book discusses the underlying themes of Hebrews. First of all, corporate deliverance, and Christ as a royal priest who (by means of his redeeming sacrifice) leads his people out of exile. He also provides for them during their pilgrimage journey. The author provides an interpretative key which helps unlock a fuller understanding of the epistle in its original context.

The Knowing the Bible series is a resource designed to help Bible readers better understand and apply God’s Word. These 12-week studies lead participants through books of the Bible and are made up of four basic components: (1) Reflection questions help readers engage the text at a deeper level; (2) “Gospel Glimpses” highlight the gospel of grace throughout the book; (3) “Whole-Bible Connections” show how any given passage connects to the Bible’s overarching story of redemption, culminating in Christ; and (4) “Theological Soundings” identify how historic orthodox doctrines are taught or reinforced throughout Scripture. With contributions from an array of influential pastors and church leaders, these gospel-centered studies will help Christians see and cherish the message of God’s grace on each and every page of the Bible. The book of Exodus recounts the single most important event in Israel’s history: their escape from slavery in the land of Egypt. Tracing their journey across the Red Sea, through the wilderness, and eventually to Mount Sinai, this foundational Old Testament text highlights the supreme faithfulness and mercy of God in contrast to Israel’s consistent grumbling, rebellion, and sin—showing us that God is a God who saves sinners.

One of the most important stories to both the Eastern and Western worlds, as attested by several blockbuster films, is the Bible's account of ancient Israelites who resided in Egypt for over four centuries, then were freed from enslavement by an act of God. Yet until now, no strong case ever has been made to validate these events from the historical and archaeological record. For this reason, an extensive portion of the scholarly world has abandoned the picture presented by the historical record in the Bible, which indicates that Jacob's descendants grew into a nation within the comfort of a divinely prepared incubator, namely Egypt. In lieu of this time-honored account, many scholars have turned to speculative theories about how Israelite origins should be connected to Transjordan or locations even further to the east of the Holy Land, as numerous authors have documented. Are these alternative options appropriate when such minimal effort has been devoted to examining carefully and objectively whether Egypt, in fact, might be the correct location of their origins? An enormous amount of research and the synthesization of historical events and archaeological artifacts has led the author to verify Israelite residence in Egypt from 1876-1446 BC. This research is connected to the unexpected discovery of interconnecting archaeological, epigraphical, and iconographical evidence that attests to the presence of Israelites in Egypt over virtually the entire 430 years. By the sheer volume of verifiable evidence of complementary historical data-when comparing the biblical text and the artifactual and epigraphical record-the author attempts to demonstrate convincingly to objective readers that the biblical story of the Egyptian origins of the Hebrew 'nation' is reliable as a factual account.
