Discover the history of one of the most influential Christian publishers in the world In 1870, a young man started a publishing company in a young city. Fleming H. Revell was just twenty-one when he set up shop on Madison Street in Chicago, partnering with his brother-in-law, Dwight L. Moody, already a well-known evangelist. From the stepping stone of publishing Moody's sermons, Revell launched into decades of collaboration, first in Chicago and then in New York City, with authors such as R. A. Torrey, Charles H. Spurgeon, Hannah Whitall Smith, William Jennings Bryan, Catherine Marshall, David Wilkerson, Corrie ten Boom, Charles Colson, and Helen Steiner Rice. So how did this East Coast publishing powerhouse end up as a division of a family-owned, independent publisher in humble West Michigan? Who were the owners, authors, and employees who carried the torch into the twenty-first century? This is the story of a passion for the power of the printed word. A story of rises and falls, triumphs and trials, missteps and miracles. Discover how, through 150 tumultuous years of history, the Revell legacy has been handed down through a series of diligent people dedicated to the work of offering hope and help to readers everywhere.

The origins of the Revell company date back to 1941 when an electrical engineer, Lewis Glaser founded a toy distribution company called 'Precision Specialties'. The reconciliation with the world (emerging) models arrived via the company Gowland and Gowland who had the idea to launch a range of plastic toys and singed a distribution agreement with Lewis Glaser. Thus in 1951 appeared the first Revell kit version of an unassembled Gowland and Gowland toy, a clunker Maxwell 1/16. The first volume is dedicated to the famous American brand, and reviews the different Revell products year by year from 1951 to 1981. Fans will be delighted by what models end up in the nearly 400 pictures of the airplanes, boats, helicopters, and other vehicles they were pleased to get in their childhood, or that are still enthroned on their shelves. It is also an essential reference book for collectors.

Janis Revell did not come into this world easily. But from the moment she was born she was her mother's love. At the age thirty-four Jan died. She was a gifted, comical, exciting, vibrant, intellectual, and a challenging individual. Her spirituality and sensitivity produced tremendous joy for those who knew her. It is a moving story of joy, family warmth, and of bright achievement tarnished by the coldness and failures of dreary and inefficient bureaucracy and highlights the shining examples set by caring volunteers, in stark contrast to the paid functionaries of grey, faceless and dismissive authority. Above all, this book is a searing indictment of a system in which closing ranks is more important than establishing the truth, and in which the concerns of those who are subject to the system are treated with arrogant dismissiveness. In Take My Hand, Audrey Revell paints a vivid and moving picture of the life and indomitable spirit of her daughter Janis, an exceptionally talented musician and composer despite having lost her sight as a child together with progressive hearing loss. Enduring and overcoming all the difficulties and disappointments of a lifelong fight against the rare and incurable disease Retinitis Pigmentosa. This is a true story of love, dedication, shining devotion and black betrayal by the system. This is Audrey Revell's honest, heart-breaking, funny, powerful, and sometimes controversial story of the life and dreadful, harrowing death of her daughter, written to fulfill a promise she made to Jan before her life support was switched off. It is also a tribute to Janis. It is lovingly and honestly written in unsparing graphic terms in the hope that it will challenge you to a better understanding of many issues. SENSE: "It is a powerful and moving story which goes into some painful and difficult areas." THE FOREST BOOK SHOP: "A powerful and very moving story."
