He is a writer and landscape photographer living on the coast of Maine. One of his greatest pleasures is driving on Mount Desert Island (home of Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor) in his Porsche 928, searching for interesting sights to photograph or perhaps just to see the sunrise. It is while enjoying one of these drives on a frosty late winter morning that he spots another Porsche. A woman is standing beside the car looking at a flat tire. Being a fellow Porsche owner, he naturally stops to try and help. Little does he realize his innocent offer of assistance will lead to adventure, danger, and involvements reaching far beyond the simple life that he knew-as he descends into "The Mists of Adriana."

A collection of serious and not so serious short stories from the coast of Maine. Some of these stories are intended to amuse, and some may touch a chord and bring a tear. But they are all intended to help pass some leisure time, perhaps while waiting for the kids to get home from school, or the even the winter to pass into spring. No guarantee is given concerning the political correctness of any of these stories, but when reading one should remember that some people actually enjoy satire. And for those who do not, the author humbly submits that perhaps those who can't laugh at history may be worrying about the wrong things.

In this powerful anthology, Sebastian Faulks, author of the international bestseller Birdsong, and Jörg Hensgen have put together some of the finest fictional writing about war in the 20th century. Whether reporting with sober clarity or raw despair, the assembled novelists each found a way to transcend the facts of death and metal, tanks and blood. Many of the writers are concerned with battle, but others dwell on moments of calm, love, and friendship. From revolutionary Russia to Republican Spain; from the trenches of the Western Front to the skies over Korea and the jungles of Vietnam, this is a book filled with heroism and horror, savagery and compassion, and lightning-flashes of anarchic humor. From the Trade Paperback edition.

A love worth fighting for Lexi River had only one job--keep Gareth Blaze out of trouble and on time for his appointments. For the most part, Lexi was able to keep Gareth's nose clean and his name out of the tabloids. Genevieve was otherworldly and elegant. Lexi hated her from day one. There was something not quite right about her, but Lexi could never figure out what bothered her about Genevieve. Everyone chocked it up to jealousy, until Lexi's worse fears about Genevieve were realized when she causes Gareth to lose his fortune in a business deal gone bad. Penniless, both Gareth and Lexi are forced to return to their childhood hometown in Kentucky. It was a place neither one of them wanted to see again, but Lexi was determined to make the best of the situation. Things were finally looking up for the pair. The teenagers known as the Chosen Ones return in a novel of witchcraft and an ancient evil—second in the Engelsfors Trilogy from the authors of The Circle. As book two, Fire, begins, Minoo, Vanessa, Linnéa, Anna-Karin and Ida have been struggling with their own demons all summer long. Now school is back in session, and whether they like it or not, the five Chosen Ones must stick together stronger than ever before. Evil is back in Engelsfors and it threatens to engulf everyone and everything—and only if the five girls accept their strengths and trust each other unconditionally will they have any chance of defeating it. The second installment of the Engelsfors Trilogy—an international sensation with rights sold in twenty-six countries—Fire sees the past woven together with the present, the living with the dead, our human world with demonic forces. This spellbinding novel takes the reader on a wild journey in a world where the stakes are higher than life-and-death. Praise for The Circle “What a stunning novel. Raw, real, smart, very thrilling and very, very wicked. The Circle is Twilight by way of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.” —Lev Grossman, New York Times–bestselling author “The Circle ensnares you from the start, with all the epic mayhem and darkness of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and with teen characters as rich and nuanced as any reader could hope for.” —Megan Abbott, New York Times–bestselling author “The Circle puts its mismatched heroines—and readers—at the center of an ancient conspiracy of magic as terrifying as it is realistic. Enthralling from start to finish.” —Elizabeth Hand, award–winning author
