Abstract: The Glass Pyramid Project celebrates wonderment. I use the ubiquitous, iconic shape of the Great Pyramid at Giza to rejoice in not knowing. The Great Pyramid is an amazing feat of earthly endeavor. It is one of the most incredible feats ever accomplished. Nearly any human can recognize it, but no one can say for sure everything about it. It fascinates and bewilders. This monument inspired me to wonder about the past, the present, and our future. My glass pyramid draws attention to the contemplating of the unknown and unknowable. The Glass Pyramid Project is an entry point for discussions and dialogues about awe, art and culture, history, technology, object making, symbolism, and monument. I use blown glass in its clear, ghostly, and mysterious state to have the pyramid ask questions about itself. The pyramid is huge and heavy and sits monumentally on the floor. But, its clearness and crystal qualities make it light and airy, almost ready to float away with the clouds and wind. My intention was to make an object that was impossible or unbelievable, uncanny and mysterious.
