May I repeat that there is ample scope for the exertions Of all our members, whether they care only to form collections Of specimens, or prefer to devote their labours to the unfolding Of the life-histories or the study of the classification of insects? There is plenty of work remaining to be done even in the favourite orders of Lepidoptera and Coleoptera, to say nothing of the others that are not so generally studied or collected. It would be a valuable contribution to our store of knowledge were lists of the Canadian species of all orders of insects to be formed, and presented to the Society for publication and at the same time a revision made of those published some years ago. The moth itself at first is rather sluggish, and can be captured readily on the bark of the tree in which it has passed its immature state. The moth is very liable to grease, consequently it is advisable to let it thoroughly dry before capturing and pinning. Excerpt from The Canadian Entomologist, Vol. 10 I very soon noticed-that ants also frequented the spikes and supposed that the honey-sweet flowers drew them, but presently saw an ant running up and down the back of one of the larvae, drumming and gesticulating with its antennae, and was surprised to find that the larva, though feeding, did not seem in the least disturbed at the treatment, neither withdrawing its head from the bud nor wincing in the body. It evidently knew well who was treating it so familiarly. Had it been touched by an ichneumon fly or had such an insect approached it nearly without touching, it would have displayed alarm instantly. A little farther search showed other ants, and sometimes several of them, busy about other larvae, running from one to another on different parts of the spike and always repeating the same drumming motions, stopping often to lick the surface, as it seemed to me, and the presence of ants became a sure indication of larvae and saved me much trouble in searching for the latter.
