Six-year-old Cameron never believed in the Boogieman. That character was merely fiction, embellished by adults to keep kids in line. Yes, the Boogieman was only a myth—until Cameron’s family moves into the stately old house with the creepy third floor. Already, at the mere age of six, Cameron carries a jaded and cynical perspective on life, so he will never admit to believing in something so childish as the Boogieman. However, he must confess there is a dark presence on the dusty third floor. This presence strikes young Cameron with unspeakable dread. The legend of the Boogieman haunts both Cameron and those around him, but how does one fight a myth? How does one control the wild machinations of a child’s mind?

Winner of the 2020 Chicago Folklore Prize CHOICE Outstanding Academic Title for 2020 Despite predictions that commercial mass culture would displace customs of the past, traditions firmly abound, often characterized as folklore. In The Practice of Folklore: Essays toward a Theory of Tradition, author Simon J. Bronner works with theories of cultural practice to explain the social and psychological need for tradition in everyday life. Bronner proposes a distinctive “praxic” perspective that will answer the pressing philosophical as well as psychological question of why people enjoy repeating themselves. The significance of the keyword practice, he asserts, is the embodiment of a tension between repetition and variation in human behavior. Thinking with practice, particularly in a digital world, forces redefinitions of folklore and a reorientation toward interpreting everyday life. More than performance or enactment in social theory, practice connects localized culture with the vernacular idea that “this is the way we do things around here.” Practice refers to the way those things are analyzed as part of, rather than apart from, theory, thus inviting the study of studying. “The way we do things” invokes the social basis of “doing” in practice as cultural and instrumental. Building on previous studies of tradition in relation to creativity, Bronner presents an overview of practice theory and the ways it might be used in folklore and folklife studies. Demonstrating the application of this theory in folkloristic studies, Bronner offers four provocative case studies of psychocultural meanings that arise from traditional frames of action and address issues of our times: referring to the boogieman; connecting “wild child” beliefs to school shootings; deciphering the offensive chants of sports fans; and explicating male bravado in bawdy singing. Turning his analysis to the analysts of tradition, Bronner uses practice theory to evaluate the agenda of folklorists in shaping perceptions of tradition-centered “folk societies” such as the Amish. He further unpacks the culturally based rationale of public folklore programming. He interprets the evolving idea of folk museums in a digital world and assesses how the folklorists' terms and actions affect how people think about tradition.

Olivofonics (Oh-Lee-Vo-Fawn-Ecks) Small Business Management & Philosophy for Beginners. Small business management is nothing more than philosophies. It covers business ethics, business reality, marketing philosophies, logic, and much more. As individuals, the only thing that we own is our beliefs. If you believe something to be true, you consider it to be your knowledge. If, however, you don't believe something to be true, you have very little knowledge of it. So knowledge is power, but only if you believe it to be true. If one side of the coin says, "Man has no guarantees in life," then it's safe to assume that the opposite side of the coin guarantees man one thing, "No individual can live forever." Yet, people flip the coin every day. Even though I cannot offer you any guarantees, we already have our guarantee. Let me say that if you believe the philosophies in this book, then my philosophies will become your knowledge. If, however, you don't believe the philosophies in this book, you'll have very little knowledge of small business management. Regards, Frank.

In over 4,000 performances in 19 countries to date, the award-winning Swiss boogie and blues pianist Nico Brina has experienced the magic of improvised music, how it affects people and what it triggers in their souls. Music as a world language. Already in his German-language book "Von 100 auf 0 in 1 Sekunde" (From 100 to 0 in 1 second), published in 2022, he talked humorously and up close about his career and about unusual projects that enabled him to keep the flame alive even during the coronavirus pandemic. Just in time for his 40th stage anniversary, a direct continuation of this successful author's journey is now being published, and this time also in an English translation: "Boogiemania - 88 keys to the soul" Nico Brina takes a deeper look into his life, telling funny and sometimes even totally crazy anecdotes from his multifaceted career. A thrilling book that in personal, direct language provides valuable insights into the nature of uncompromising dedication on stage. Brina repeatedly succeeds in creating a philosophical link between the art of improvising on 88 keys and normal life. In this way, he draws highly inspiring images that give people the courage and strength to engage with the moment and surrender to the so-called "flow". In doing so, he perhaps even provides something of an explanation for the timeless secret of boogie and blues magic.
