Quietly, without drawing attention to themselves, a group of five men and two women, all with a special concern, met secretly to discuss the impact of the planned construction project at the local old abandoned hotel. They were friends and long-time local citizens, bound by a single incident, which they had successfully hidden from the rest of the world. Now, the planned construction rekindled old, deeply hidden emotions as well as a renewed terror into their very hearts and souls. It was fear, although never really forgotten, that had laid dormant for more than twenty-five years.

Chapter I THE DEFINITION AND ORIGIN OF BANSHEES In a country, such as Ireland, that is characterised by an arrestive and wildly beautiful scenery, it is not at all surprising to find something in the nature of a ghost harmonising with the general atmosphere and surroundings, and that something, apparently so natural to Ireland, is the Banshee. The name Banshee seems to be a contraction of the Irish Bean Sidhe, which is interpreted by some writers on the subject "A Woman of the Faire Race," whilst by various other writers it is said to signify "The Lady of Death," "The Woman of Sorrow," "The Spirit of the Air," and "The Woman of the Barrow." It is strictly a family ghost, and most authorities agree that it only haunts families of very ancient Irish lineage. Mr McAnnaly, for instance, remarks (in the chapter on Banshees in his "Irish Wonders"): "The Banshee attends only the old families, and though their descendants, through misfortune, may be brought down from high estate to ranks of peasant farmers, she never leaves nor forgets them till the last member has been gathered to his fathers in the churchyard."... An heiress forced to choose a husband by her next birthday. A former selkie bent on revenge. Can they set aside their differences and work together long enough to achieve their goals? Muireall Oliver has never had a life of her own. Forever bound by society’s expectations, the young heiress fulfills the role she must before retreating to the safety of her garden. Friendship—and love—are things this laird’s daughter dare not dream of. But when her parents tell her to choose between two unsuitable men for a husband, desperation drives her to find any means of escape. Even if it means collecting three magical items for the Fair Folk, things she can only obtain with the help of her conniving, disrespectful, and undeniably handsome servant. Niall Moreland—exiled, powerless, broken—has only one goal: settling the scores with the people who destroyed his life. To do that, he’ll have to be both cunning and patient. He can’t afford to get distracted, least of all by his new master’s irritating daughter. But as one of the most influential humans in town, tricking Muireall into owing him a favor could prove useful. He couldn’t care less that fairy bargains always come with strings attached; all that matters is that she helps him when the time comes. There’s just one small problem: the longer Niall spends with her, the more he starts to wonder if humans aren’t as terrible as he thought. And if revenge isn’t the thing he wants most. Magical bargains aren’t broken lightly, but the cost of success may be too high for either of them to pay. Curl up with this fantasy romance and experience Scotland’s intriguing folklore, rich culture, and a love story you’ll not soon forget. The Treasure of Rigmore House is the third novel in a series of clean fantasy romances set in 18th-century Scotland. Each book in the Betwixt the Sea and Shore series explores the love story of a different couple, but the plots are all interconnected.
