Sugar the travelling bear is based on one of fifty teddy bears that I have sent to travel around the world visiting children with Type one diabetes. Sugar is one of my oldest bears. Type one diabetes is often hard to adapt to for many children and families, and there is a lot to learn. My support group, The Insulin Gang provides a place for learning, help, friendship and advice. From that was borne the Travelling Bears, of which there are fifty travelling globally sharing adventures with children, before being sent on to visit a new family. From injections and blood tests to carb counting, type one diabetes can be hard work, so being part of a community of people is important and a great tonic. In this story, the delightful Sugar the bear is taken into Hospital by his owner, a Nurse, called Anna. Anna works with children who are diagnosed with type one diabetes. Sugar has a secret, that only Anna knows, he comes alive and gives the children even more reason to smile. As well as the magic of having a bear come to life, Sugar also helps the children accept their new health condition, and to feel less alone. He is a important little bear, who takes his role very seriously. With bears spread out all over the world, there are far more adventures to be had, and this really is just the beginning.

In this second book in the Narnia-inspired Indigenous middle-grade fantasy series, Eli and Morgan journey once more to Misewa, travelling back in time. Back at home after their first adventure in the Barren Grounds, Eli and Morgan each struggle with personal issues: Eli is being bullied at school, and tries to hide it from Morgan, while Morgan has to make an important decision about her birth mother. They turn to the place where they know they can learn the most, and make the journey to Misewa to visit their animal friends. This time they travel back in time and meet a young fisher that might just be their lost friend. But they discover that the village is once again in peril, and they must dig deep within themselves to find the strength to protect their beloved friends. Can they carry this strength back home to face their own challenges?

‘Inspired’, ‘enthralling’ and ‘stylish’ are just some of the words used to describe the first edition of Bearback. Now in paperback, Pat Garrod’s remarkable story is set to be discovered by even more travellers.. Imagine jacking it all in, packing your life into a 41-litre pannier and riding into the sunset. Bearback is the story of two GPs who did just that, downing stethoscopes to take off on their motorcycle, The Bear, to see the world. Across the deserts of Africa, over the mountains of the Andes, deep into the jungles of Indochina, and beyond the Arctic Circle; 100,000 miles through six continents and 64 countries. A circumnavigation of epic proportion and entirely unsupported, it was to become one of the longest journeys ever undertaken by a couple on one motorcycle, a journey destined to change their lives forever. ‘A remarkable journey. Searching, honest, uplifting’ – Sir Ranulph Fiennes ‘An inspired travelogue, dispelling the myth that remarkable journeys are out of your grasp’ – National Geographic Traveller ‘Belts along at a cracking pace. Stylish and good quality’ - RIDE ‘I didn’t want this enthralling book to end. If you only read one travelogue this year, make it this one’ – Real Travel, Book of the Month ‘We’ve all dreamed about it – quitting the job, packing up the house, and hitting the road for the adventure of a lifetime. Few do it, and even fewer do it as well as Pat Garrod’ – Travel Africa Magazine
