This is a comprehensive reference for urological disorders, including adult and pediatric problems. Given the nature of the 5 Minute format, it is more useful for medical than surgical approaches to urologic problems, and thus functions well as an adjunct to Glenn's Urologic Surgery, for which Len Gomella is also an editor. As a comprehensive reference it occupies a vacant spot in the market between good but smaller and less comprehensive handbooks and encyclopedic, often multivolume, textbooks. It is useful as a board exam prep tool. The Second Edition includes a number of new entries and a new section of algorithms for some of the most common or problematic diagnoses. The organization of the book has been revamped so that all standard 2-page entries are printed in alphabetical order, and pages are tabbed for quicker access. The short entries are printed in alphabetical order in their own section after the standard entries.

The Nurse Practitioner in Urology will be invaluable in ensuring that the nurse practitioner is able to maintain exemplary management of patients with acute and chronic urologic conditions in a wide variety of settings, including independent practices, hospitals, and academic urologic practices. It explains fully the role of the nurse practitioner as a skilled clinician in urology, blending nursing and medical management and capable of managing many chronic nonoperative urologic conditions while recognizing those conditions which may benefit from surgical management. Covering the full-range of disorders, this book helps primary care physicians diagnose and treat ear, nose, and throat problems. Easy-to-read, concise, and uniquely symptom-based rather than disease-based, it guides the physician as to how to make a diagnosis, what other tests to order, how to decide on treatment, and what the warning signs are for referral to a specialist. Each chapter is based on a symptom and has algorithms for quick reference, as well as explanations on each step of the algorithm. The treatment is also outlined in an algorithmic fashion as well as detailed in the text. The book is eminently suitable for primary care physicians and emergency room or urgent care personnel, resident physicians in primary care fields, medical students and admirably serves those studying for the Boards, as well as allied health professionals, including ENT nurses and audiologists.
