Fifty years ago Abilene High School, under legendary Coach Chuck Moser, became a football dynasty in Texas. Moser moved to Abilene in 1953 at age thirty-four. What followed were seven of the most amazing years in the rich history of Texas high school football. The 1954, 1955, and 1956 teams won state championships. From 1954 to 1957 the Eagles won an incredible forty-nine consecutive games. Abilene captured six district titles in a row in a rugged West Texas league known as the Little Southwest Conference. In Moser's seven years, Abilene won seventy-eight games and lost only seven. In its 1999 wrap-up of the twentieth century in Texas, The Dallas Morning News designated the Eagles of 1954-57 as the "Team of the Century" in high school football. Veteran sports writer Al Pickett explores how Moser worked his magic to galvanize an entire community in support of his program and turn an otherwise ordinary group of high school kids into the best football team in Texas history.

The team now known as the Boston Red Sox played its first season in 1901. The city of Boston had a well-established National League team, known at the time as the Beaneaters, but the founders of the American League knew that Boston was a strong baseball market and when they launched the league as a new major league in 1901, they went head-to-head with the N.L. in Chicago, Philadelphia, and Boston. Chicago won the American League pennant and Boston finished second, just four games behind. The Boston Americans played in a new ballpark — the Huntington Avenue Grounds — literally on the other side of the railroad tracks from the Beaneaters and they out-drew the Beaneaters by more than 2-1, in part because they had enticed some of the more popular players — player/ manager Jimmy Collins, pitcher Cy Young, and slugger Buck Freeman. This volume represents the collective work of more than 25 members of SABR --the Society for American Baseball Research. It offers individual biographies of the players, team owner Charles Somers, league founder Ban Johnson, and two of the team's most noted fans: Hi Hi Dixwell and Nuf Ced McGreevy. "Behavioral scientists from the U.S. Army Research Institute for the Behavioral and Social Sciences assisted the Institute for Defense Analyses (IDA) Simulation Center in conduct of excursions into the virtual 21st Century battlefield. The 1996 Defense Science Board (DSB) Summer Study requested analytical insights about concepts and technologies being considered for small team operations on the DSB's conceptual 21st Century Battlefield. The DSB focused on the concept of using technology to enable small rapidly deployable forces to accomplish missions previously only available to larger forces. Exercises were conducted in a virtual simulation environment U.S. Army and Marine Corps personnel used specially designed devices in a virtual simulation facility to test concepts about the capabilities of small (3- to 12-man) teams operating in a sensor-rich environment. In addition to computer reported data behavioral and tactical observers documented man-in-the-loop soldier performance and interactions with specific equipment. Combat effectiveness was enhanced through sophisticated communication devices and computers. Personnel were able in the virtual environment to perform tasks similar to those that might occur in a future battlefield scenario. A benefit of the simulation was the ability to portray future missions with prototype equipment."--DITC.

The services provided by the twenty-first century medical library are evolving, from circulating print materials, interlibrary loan, and traditional reference desk services to services like in depth literature searches, systematic reviews, and research impact studies.
