With the advent of HTML5, front-end MVC, and Node.js, JavaScript is ubiquitous--and still messy. This book will give you a solid foundation for managing async tasks without losing your sanity in a tangle of callbacks. It's a fast-paced guide to the most essential techniques for dealing with async behavior, including PubSub, evented models, and Promises. With these tricks up your sleeve, you'll be better prepared to manage the complexity of large web apps and deliver responsive code. With Async JavaScript, you'll develop a deeper understanding of the JavaScript language. You'll start with a ground-up primer on the JavaScript event model--key to avoiding many of the most common mistakes JavaScripters make. From there you'll see tools and design patterns for turning that conceptual understanding into practical code. The concepts in the book are illustrated with runnable examples drawn from both the browser and the Node.js server framework, incorporating complementary libraries including jQuery, Backbone.js, and Async.js. You'll learn how to create dynamic web pages and highly concurrent servers by mastering the art of distributing events to where they need to be handled, rather than nesting callbacks within callbacks within callbacks. Async JavaScript will get you up and running with real web development quickly. By the time you've finished the Promises chapter, you'll be parallelizing Ajax requests or running animations in sequence. By the end of the book, you'll even know how to leverage Web Workers and AMD for JavaScript applications with cutting-edge performance. Most importantly, you'll have the knowledge you need to write async code with confidence. What You Need: Basic knowledge of JavaScript is recommended. If you feel that you're not up to speed, see the "Resources for Learning JavaScript" section in the preface.

Asynchronous On-Chip Networks and Fault-Tolerant Techniques is the first comprehensive study of fault-tolerance and fault-caused deadlock effects in asynchronous on-chip networks, aiming to overcome these drawbacks and ensure greater reliability of applications. As a promising alternative to the widely used synchronous on-chip networks for multicore processors, asynchronous on-chip networks can be vulnerable to faults even if they can deliver the same performance with much lower energy and area compared with their synchronous counterparts – faults can not only corrupt data transmission but also cause a unique type of deadlock. By adopting a new redundant code along with a dynamic fault detection and recovery scheme, the authors demonstrate that asynchronous on-chip networks can be efficiently hardened to tolerate both transient and permanent faults and overcome fault-caused deadlocks. This book will serve as an essential guide for researchers and students studying interconnection networks, fault-tolerant computing, asynchronous system design, circuit design and on-chip networking, as well as for professionals interested in designing fault-tolerant and high-throughput asynchronous circuits.

Build fault-tolerant, robust, and distributed applications in Scala Key Features - Understand and use the concepts of reactive programming to build distributed systems running on multiple nodes. - Learn how reactive architecture reduces complexity throughout the development process. - Get to grips with functional reactive programming and Reactive Microservices. Book Description Reactive programming is a scalable, fast way to build applications, and one that helps us write code that is concise, clear, and readable. It can be used for many purposes such as GUIs, robotics, music, and others, and is central to many concurrent systems. This book will be your guide to getting started with Reactive programming in Scala. You will begin with the fundamental concepts of Reactive programming and gradually move on to working with asynchronous data streams. You will then start building an application using Akka Actors and extend it using the Play framework. You will also learn about reactive stream specifications, event sourcing techniques, and different methods to integrate Akka Streams into the Play Framework. This book will also take you one step forward by showing you the advantages of the Lagom framework while working with reactive microservices. You will also learn to scale applications using multi-node clusters and test, secure, and deploy your microservices to the cloud. By the end of the book, you will have gained the knowledge to build robust and distributed systems with Scala and Akka. What you will learn Understand the fundamental principles of Reactive and Functional programming Develop applications utilizing features of the Akka framework Explore techniques to integrate Scala, Akka, and Play together Learn about Reactive Streams with real-time use cases Develop Reactive Web Applications with Play, Scala, Akka, and Akka Streams Develop and deploy Reactive microservices using the Lagom framework and ConductR Who this book is for This book is for Scala developers who would like to build fault-tolerant, scalable distributed systems. No knowledge of Reactive programming is required.

If you’re writing one of several applications that call for asynchronous programming, this concise hands-on guide shows you how the async feature in C# 5.0 can make the process much simpler. Along with a clear introduction to asynchronous programming, you get an in-depth look at how the async feature works and why you might want to use it in your application. Written for experienced C# programmers—yet approachable for beginners—this book is packed with code examples that you can extend for your own projects. Write your own asynchronous code, and learn how async saves you from this messy chore Discover new performance possibilities in ASP.NET web server code Explore how async and WinRT work together in Windows 8 applications Learn the importance of the await keyword in async methods Understand which .NET thread is running your code—and at what points in the program Use the Task-based Asynchronous Pattern (TAP) to write asynchronous APIs in .NET Take advantage of parallel computing in modern machines Measure async code performance by comparing it with alternatives

There's no denying work has changed in the past couple of years. Potentially faster and more than in the previous five or ten years! The rise of remote work, work from home, work from anywhere, telework, work across different time zones and hybrid work (some people here/some there) continues to create change and challenges. What's one of the best ways to respond and adapt to the changing world of work? It's to consider not just the work itself ? but the WAY it gets done. Consider:?? Do we really need everyone at the same meeting at the same time? (synchronous work)?? Could some people contribute prior to, or after the meeting or begin working on tasks outside of a meeting? (asynchronous work)A growing number of teams and businesses are learning and experiencing the value of deliberately working in sync / async ways. That is, some work is completed synchronously - at the same time with other people; and other elements of work completed asynchronously - at a time and in a way that suits them.'Sync Async : Making progress easier in the changing world of work'. Sync Async includes:?? how, why and when to work in sync and async ways?? tools for creating your team's sync async strategy?? ways to identify the type of work you prefer ?? techniques to work in more async ways?? how to make daily progress easier - get started on things that have stopped and accelerate things that have slowed. You don't need to wait for a culture to change or for someone to give you the go ahead on this. You can start working better in both sync and async ways from today. There will always be too much to do and not enough time in which to do it. Putting practical sync async techniques to work can make your work easier ? and the rest of life better.

A SCADA system gathers information, such as where a leak on a pipeline has occurred, transfers the information back to a central site, alerting the home station that the leak has occurred, carrying out necessary analysis and control, such as determining if the leak is critical, and displaying the information in a logical and organized fashion. SCADA systems can be relatively simple, such as one that monitors environmental conditions of a small office building, or incredibly complex, such as a system that monitors all the activity in a nuclear power plant or the activity of a municipal water system. An engineer's introduction to Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems and their application in monitoring and controlling equipment and industrial plant Essential reading for data acquisition and control professionals in plant engineering, manufacturing, telecommunications, water and waste control, energy, oil and gas refining and transportation Provides the knowledge to analyse, specify and debug SCADA systems, covering the fundamentals of hardware, software and the communications systems that connect SCADA operator stations
