A collection of trails exploring the history of South East Wales, from prehistoric times to beyond the Industrial Revolution. The trails range from short to strenuous and include town trails and countryside terrain. The 20 walks are diverse in length and landscape, yet they all have one thing in common; the rich history of south east Wales. From the world-class Blaenavon Heritage Site at the uppermost tip of the south Wales coalfields to the sweeping expanse of Cardiff Bay, the trails are centred on the vibrancy of Wales' past, with the aim of bringing back to life some of her most notable events and characters.

For six decades Charles Burton has been one of the major figures of art in Wales. Born in 1929, he grew up amid the poverty of the pre-war Rhondda. Even as a student he was a central figure in the influential Rhondda Group, his work was purchased for public collections and he won the Gold Medal of the National Eisteddfod. Carel Weight described him as "one of the most lively" of a Royal College generation that included Frank Auerbach, Peter Blake, Fred Cuming and Leon Kossof. He was a charismatic head of painting at Liverpool College of Art when it was a hub of pop culture in the 1960s. Since returning to Wales in 1970 he has continued to produce works of brilliant serenity.0This book presents for the first time the full breadth of Charles Burton's career, from the vigour of his earliest Valleys landscapes through paintings made in Egypt during National Service to his cool abstracts and expressive heads of the 1960s and the elegant perfection of his still lifes, interiors and landscapes of the last four decades.

Watkin provides a history of the various legal systems by which Wales and its people have been governed over the last two millenia, including the civil law of Rome, the laws of the native Welsh people, the canon law of the Church and the English common law. This book shows how in each age the people of Wales have adapted to and adopted the legal traditions which they have encountered and assesses the importance of this inheritance for the future of modern Wales within both Europe and the wider international community.
