Excerpt from Old and New, Vol. 2: July to Dec. 1870 So says Mr. William Morris, who gives to us so much of the epigram fib-day, as he gives us so much pleasant memory of yesterday and so my bright outlooks on to-morrow. He is the first of story-tellers of I time, perhaps, if story-telling pure and simple be in question. He ks not harass us with his moral. He does not annoy us with accounts d' his own headaches; and we are left to guess whether his own pulse in fifty-nine or at one hundred and thirty. He tells his story, that is that he is for; as a guide-board tells you that the way connects Binghamton with Elmira, without telling you whether Binghamton is on a hill or Elmira in a valley, or whether you will find good inns in either. Such is his way of treating what is past. As for what is to me. He never launches into prophecy. But of to - day, of what is, 3 it be sultry, or if it be cold; if these be apple-blossoms on the ground, or if they be snow-flakes, - of that he tells us very truly the nary. And paints for us very truly the picture. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Excerpt from Our Old Home and English Note-Books, Vol. 2 July 4th. - I left Leamington on Monday, shortly after twelve, having been accompanied to the railway station by U and J, whom I sent away before the train started. While I was waiting, a rattier gentlemanly, well-to-do, English-looking man sat down by me, and began to talk of the Crimea, of human affairs in general, of God and his Providence, of the coming troubles of the world, and of spiritualism, in a strange free way for an Englishman, or, indeed, for any man. It was easy to see that he was an enthusiast of some hue or other. He being bound for Birmingham and I for Rugby, we soon had to part; but he asked my name, and told me his own, which I did not much at tend to, and immediately forgot. [Here follows a long account of a visit to Lichfield and Uttoxeter, condensed in "Our Old Home."] July 6th. - The day after my arrival, by way of Lichfield and Uttoxeter, to Liverpool, the door of the Consulate opened, and in came the very sociable personage who accosted me at the railway station at Leamington.
