My book of writings, Let's Go for a Walk, is a collection of fiction and nonfiction writings of my life growing up and reaching my older years in West Virginia and some of my travels around the country. Some are funny, some are sad; you will laugh, and some will cry. Some of the writings are true, and some not so true are included in my book. The front cover photograph was taken on the Burrows Family Farm, which is located in Sergeants Hollow, otherwise known locally as Frog Hollow, and was taken by my son, Rickie, and it reflects some of my feelings as I wrote this book. My life has been a series of ups and downs, as most of us have experienced while on our walk through life. My hope in writing this book, and the ones hopefully that follow, is to allow my reader to take a step back and remember the good memories during their walk. The back page photograph was taken at my desk and was also taken by my son. I attempt to surround myself with old things to allow me to look around and gather my feelings as some of the old authors may have done. Let's go for a walk. Enjoy. Rick A. Burrows Sr.

You've heard of Neverland and its inhabitants... fairies, pirates, mermaids, and a boy who didn't want to grow up. But you can't always believe the stories. In the vein of Aiden Thomas’ Peter Pan retelling, Lost in the Never Woods, Hook & Crown is perfect for readers who crave fresh, modern twists on classic tales. hr “Where do I even begin with this book?! As a lifelong fan of Peter Pan I am a sucker for retellings and this one blew my mind. This book took me on a rollercoaster of emotions that I can only hope to share with the world. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants a dark and gritty retelling with some plot twists that will leave you breathless!” - Verified Reviewer hr Elena Hart arrives in London, bound for a new boarding school operated by her estranged uncle. A fresh start is exactly what she needs. But when strange things begin happening, things she can't explain, she begins to wonder if she’s losing her senses. Then, a strange girl appears in her room one night, claiming to be a fairy tasked with bringing Elena to Neverland at the request of its ruler. Skeptical, Elena refuses, until a young man with strange green eyes appears. Although she tries to resist his charm, something about him allays her doubts, and Elena is whisked away from the world she knows to one she always thought was make-believe. But Neverland is nothing like the stories Elena grew up hearing, and she quickly learns that the boundary between the righteous and the wicked is hardly clear-cut. She must decide for herself who the heroes and villains are, or if there are truly any at all.

Within the pages of a book exists a world drawn from a writer’s deepest imaginings, one that has the ability to pull readers in on a visceral level. But the audience’s fascination will only last if the writer can describe this vibrant realm and its inhabitants well. The setting achieves this by offering readers a unique sensory experience. So much more than stage dressing, the setting can build mood, convey meaning through symbolism, drive the plot by creating challenges that force the hero to fight for what he wants, and trigger his emotions to reveal his most intimate feelings, fears, and desires. Inside this volume you will find: • A list of the sights, smells, tastes, textures, and sounds for over 100 settings revolving around school, home, and nature • Possible sources of conflict for each location to help you brainstorm ways to naturally complicate matters for your characters • Advice on the many effective ways to build mood, helping you steer both the character’s and readers’ emotions in every scene • Information on how the setting directly influences the plot by acting as a tuning fork for what a character needs most and by testing his dedication to his goals • A tutorial on figurative language and how different descriptive techniques can bring settings alive for readers while conveying a symbolic message or deeper meaning • A review of the challenges that arise when writing description, as well as special considerations that apply specifically to rural and personal settings The Rural Setting Thesaurus takes “show-don’t-tell” to new heights. It offers writers a roadmap to creating fresh setting imagery that impacts the story on multiple levels and keeps readers engaged from the first page to the last.
