సిద్ధయోగ సాంప్రదాయానికి పరమగురువైన గోరక్షనాధుడు రచించిన ఈ గ్రంధం వెయ్యి సంవత్సరాల నాటిది. ఇందులో అద్వైతము, గురుతత్త్వము, తంత్రమార్గము, యోగసాధనా రహస్యములే గాక సిద్ధ యోగ సాంప్రదాయమునకు చెందిన ప్రాచీన భావనలు, దానియొక్క ప్రత్యేకమైన సాధనా విధానములు వివరించ బడినాయి. సిద్ధుల జీవన్ముక్తికి ప్రతీకగా భావింపబడే ‘అవధూతస్థితి’ వివరంగా చెప్పబడింది. ఈనాడు శక్తిలేని కుహనాగురువులు కూడా ‘శక్తిపాతం’ ఇస్తున్నామని చెబుతూ ఎక్కడబడితే అక్కడ మేమంటూ తయారౌతున్నారు. సిద్ధమార్గంలో కలిగే అసలైన శక్తిపాతం ఎలా ఉంటుందో ఈ గ్రంధంలో స్పష్టంగా చెప్పబడింది. మానవజీవితానికి పరిపూర్ణత ఎలా వస్తుంది? దానికి ఏమేం చెయ్యాలి? అనేది మాత్రమే గాక, సృష్టి ఏ విధమైన ప్రణాళికతో జరిగింది అనే విషయాన్ని బ్రహ్మాండం నుండి పిండాండం వరకూ కూలంకషంగా వివరించడం జరిగింది.

The book explains the different Layers of the phenomenal creation and the yogic understanding of the human body. It narrates interrelation of microcosm and macrocosm the substratum of the body and the method of union of microcosm and macrocosm. It outlines the characteristics of an avadhutayogi. Special feature of this book lies with its emphatic statement regarding the futility of all the yogic techniques if undertaken in a mechanical manner.

This volume contains the essence of the writings and teachings of Mahayogi Gorakhnath. It is well pointed out that while the ultimate object of the search is the same for a Yogi and a philosopher, their modes of approach are different, the latterês being intellectual and the formerês intuitive and spiritual. The task of a Yogi does not require any subtle intellectual speculation or the framing of hypotheses and theories. The quest of the Yogi is a direct spiritual experience of truth on a high plane of consciousness. The highest state of Samadhi attained by the Yogi is neither purely subjective nor objective. It transcends both categories and it is an integrated experience beyond formal description. Such a transcendent state of consciousness is alone called Samadhi. This book provides a remarkable range of information on the history, religion, and folklore of the Nāth Yogis. A Hindu lineage prominent in North India since the eleventh century, Nāths are well-known as adepts of Hatha yoga and alchemical practices said to increase longevity. Long a heterogeneous group, some Nāths are ascetics and some are householders; some are dedicated to personified forms of Shiva, others to a formless god, still others to Vishnu. The essays in the first part of the book deal with the history and historiography of the Nāths, their literature, and their relationships with other religious movements in India. Essays in the second part discuss the legends and folklore of the Nāths and provide an exploration of their religious ideas.
