The book includes six chapters that cover Virginia history from initial settlement through the 20th century plus one that deals with the important role of underwater archaeology. Written by prominent archaeologists with research experience in their respective topic areas, the chapters consider important issues of Virginia history and consider how the discipline of historic archaeology has addressed them and needs to address them . Changes in research strategy over time are discussed , and recommendations are made concerning the need to recognize the diverse and often differing roles and impacts that characterized the different regions of Virginia over the course of its historic past. Significant issues in Virginia history needing greater study are identified.

American Military History provides the United States Army-in particular, its young officers, NCOs, and cadets-with a comprehensive but brief account of its past. The Center of Military History first published this work in 1956 as a textbook for senior ROTC courses. Since then it has gone through a number of updates and revisions, but the primary intent has remained the same. Sally Fairfax Chinn Reisinger, daughter of Virginia Supreme Court Justice Joseph William Chinn, describes in a detailed and often poetic fashion, that the author referred to as her "pictures memories," the people and events of her youth and growing up with her parents and four siblings in the small Virginia village of Warsaw. Laid in the first half of the twentieth century, it's a simple but extremely rich life of another age of gentile living, surrounded by the warmth and closeness of family and friends.
