This is Volume I of eight in a series on Islam. Originally published in 1879, this holds a selection of translated writings from the Kur-an from Arabic. These selections are divided into two sections- Islam and then the second on other religions as regarded in Islam.

Note: ALL proceeds from the sale of this publication will go to charity. The Holy Quran is a compilation of 114 chapters, revealed to prophet Muhammad (pbuh) over a period of 23 years. However, the arrangement of these in the universally accepted Uthmanic Codex is different to the chronological order in which the divine verses were revealed. This book presents a chronological arrangement of the chapters in the Noble Quran, with the primary objectives as follows: to deliver a concise and yet a fundamental summary of the key life events of prophet Muhammad (pbuh); to present English translation of selected verses from the Quranic chapters; to provide a foundation understanding of the Quranic revelations in light of the life events of the Prophet and the circumstances prevalent at the time. This book has been kept short in length, with the intention that the reader is able to gain the essential familiarity with the subject matter, relatively easily. Although, much written work is available on the teachings of the Quran, the literature on the time-order arrangement of the divine revelations in the context of the events at the time, is rather scarce. In this respect, the book also aims to fill a gap that currently exists in this body of knowledge.

What is the nature of the Qur’an? It might seem a straightforward question, but there is no consensus among modern communities of the Qur’an, both Muslim and non-Muslim, about the answer. And why should there be? On numerous occasions throughout history, believers from different schools and denominations, and at different times and places, have agreed to disagree. The Qur’anic interpreters, jurists and theologians of medieval Baghdad, Cairo and Cordoba coexisted peacefully in spite of their diverging beliefs. Seeking to revive this ‘ethics of disagreement’ of Classical Islam, this volume explores the different relationships societies around the world have with the Qur’an and how our understanding of the text can be shaped by studying the interpretations of others. From LGBT groups to urban African American communities, this book aims to represent the true diversity of communities of the Qur’an in the twenty-first century, and the dialogue and debate that can flow among them.
