In spite of the best treatment, 30,Äì50% of stroke survivors are left with significant physical and/or psychological disabilities and consequent decline in quality of life (QOL). The silver lining is that up to 80% of stroke survivors can become independent in activities of daily living with adequate rehabilitation. Rehabilitation with physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy offers a good opportunity to regain functional abilities. However, there is a shortage of neurorehabilitation (NR) programs across the globe, more so in resource-poor countries. The secular practice of yoga and spirituality is associated with a host of physical, physiological, cognitive, and psychological benefits that can be effectively included in stroke rehabilitation (SR). It has been shown to increase creativity and reduce stress as well as improve muscle power, dexterity, visual perception, and reaction time. These practices promote the positive effects on carotid atherosclerosis, hypertension, diabetes, and coronary artery disease, which are all identified risk factors associated with stroke occurrence or reoccurrence. Yoga and relevant practices are low cost and have good acceptance amongst patients and caregivers. In spite of yoga and meditation as useful tool, it has not been addressed adequately in stroke rehabilitation.

A guide to yoga therapy for post-stroke rehabilitation, this book is for yoga teachers and yoga therapists, but also for occupational, recreational, physical and speech therapists who work with people with stroke and may integrate yoga into their practice. Rooted in evidence-based research and written by two yoga teachers who are also academics and researchers in rehabilitation, the book provides basic information about stroke and neuroplasticity, discusses the mind body disconnect that often occurs after stroke, and provides instruction on how to improve balance, strength and range of motion. It also covers effective meditation techniques to help overcome the stress and emotional impact of stroke. Clear photographs demonstrate yoga postures and activities specifically adapted for stroke patients, alongside case studies.

This is an open access book. International Conference on Vocational Education Applied Science and Technology (ICVEAST), formerly known as International Conference on Vocation for Higher Education (ICVHE), is an annual event organized by the Vocational Education Program, Universitas Indonesia, that aims to encourage innovative applied research in vocational higher education. In 2022, we rebranded the conference to focus on being an international forum where scholars and practitioners share their ideas on vocational education, especially within applied science and technology. The rebranding from ICVHE to ICVEAST marks our fifth conference. This year, we present our sixth conference, with the theme, “VOCATIONAL 5.0: Virtuosity Collaboration for Sustainability Development and Innovative Technologies Goals 5.0”. Collaboration for sustainability development is a crucial part of achieving a sustainable future. It involves working with stakeholders, such as governments, businesses, non-governmental organizations, and communities, to develop and implement sustainable solutions. These stakeholders can pool their resources, knowledge, and expertise by working together to create innovative solutions that benefit the environment and society. The collaboration also helps ensure that all stakeholders are on the same page regarding sustainability goals and objectives. By building relationships and trust between stakeholders, collaboration can help to create a more sustainable future. Innovative Technology Goal 5.0 focuses on using technology to improve access to education and foster a culture of innovation and creativity. It seeks to create a more equitable and inclusive learning environment by providing access to digital tools and resources for all students, regardless of background or ability. It also seeks to promote technology to support the development of 21st-century skills, such as critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration. Finally, it aims to ensure that technology is used to support the development of a safe and secure learning environment while encouraging responsible and ethical use. VOCATIONAL 5.0 is a collaborative effort to promote sustainable development and innovative technology goals. It is designed to bring together experts from various fields, including business, education, government, and the non-profit sector, to identify and develop innovative solutions to global challenges. Through the use of data-driven decision-making and the application of new technologies, VOCATIONAL 5.0 seeks to create a more sustainable and equitable world. The initiative also aims to foster collaboration between stakeholders, create a platform for knowledge sharing, and promote the use of technology to drive social, economic, and environmental progress. By leveraging the collective expertise of its members, VOCATIONAL 5.0 is committed to achieving its sustainable development and innovative technology goals. This ICVEAST aims to be a respected international forum to discuss the recent improvement and challenges in Vocational Education nowadays and in the future, from the research insight, mainly applied research in the field of administration and business, health science, social humanities, and engineering. The event will gather representatives from different countries, diverse areas of knowledge, and lots of education, research, public institutions, and organizations. The conference is devised as a space to exchange ideas and discuss the challenges that education and manufacturing face in preparing human capabilities to shift into the current trend of automation and the role of advanced technologies in those challenges. We intend to have an interactive conference through these three different sessions: business talks, keynote, and parallel/presentation sessions.

Stroke continues to be a major public health issue. It is the third leading cause of death and disability across the globe. Its early identification and treatment along with prevention are major issues that confront a treating physician. We have understood the importance of early intervention and of the quote ‘time is brain’. Our endeavor now should be directed to the public at large and paramedics in particular. Although a stroke is a common condition, the availability of neurologists or stroke specialists is quite scarce. Today, management of a suspected case of stroke is done by a specialist team of medical and paramedical personnel. Advances in imaging, newer therapeutic agents, and endovascular management have revolutionized the management. Currently, we are witnessing a new era in the management of strokes and I am hopeful that continued research will get us to a satisfactory solution. This book along with another book from IntechOpen titled ‘Ischemic Stroke of Brain’ aims to improve the understanding of stroke medicine for postgraduate medical students in medicine and neurology who have an interest in stroke care.

The long awaited revised 2nd edition of The Yoga Therapy Handbook has arrived! It is greatly expanded, colorful and much more descriptive than the original edition from 2007. The new version is contained in four distinct volumes (Book 1-4) that are being sold separately with an "a-la-cart" styling so readers can "pick and choose" from what works best for them as either a novice/beginner or advanced Yoga therapist. Perhaps, what is most intriguing, though, about this 2nd edition is that in the interim period the author made a dramatic and controversial decision to embrace Al-Islam. Accordingly, this edition wrestles with those quintessential elements that make a "comparative religion" flow to this text quite different than any other Yoga therapy book on the market today. The author also revives his review of the multicultural expressions as well in both Yoga Science and meditation practices. The creative artistic flair of the illustrator (Sue Jeong Ka) is still woven into the fabric of this text. This Fine Artist who is originally from South Korea (ROK) now lives and works in the USA (New York City. Surely, her talents have expanded since the first edition and we hope with the "print edition" to follow she add some new illustrations to enliven this text.

Examines what can be learnt about the brain mechanisms underlying religious practice from studying people with neurological disorders.

Stroke remains a leading cause of adult disability. The social, physical and psychological consequences of stroke are devastating. With better understanding of causation and breakthrough advances in management, we are witnessing a greater population of stroke survivors with varying neurological and functional deficits. Poststroke rehabilitation is a multi-disciplinary and multi-modal endeavor and not a ,Äòone size fits all,Äô intervention. A combination of interventions may be better suited to treat motor and sensory impairments, cognitive problems and psychological issues. There is great interest in exploring novel rehabilitation technologies to augment conventional therapies to reduce neurological disability and improve function. Yoga and spirituality, though ancient practices, are finding a bigger role in field of rehabilitation. In spite of good potentials for recovery, these rehabilitative measures are underutilized and major barriers are limited availability, geographical distance, high cost and lack of awareness about its benefits. While conventional measures are well engraved, this article review the recent concepts in stroke rehabilitation.
