Are you fascinated by the allure of Asian women? Their commitment to family values and undeniable beauty make them highly sought after by men, particularly in the US. But, did you know that there is a side of Asian women that remains hidden from many? Unveiling the Veiled is the culmination of years of in-depth interviews with Asian women, encompassing their expectations, beliefs, and behaviors both before and after marriage. Through conversations with men who have married Asian women, a shocking truth has been unveiled - an obscure tendency that has transcended centuries and continues to persist, not only among Asian women in their native land but also among those residing in western countries. While these traits do transform in women who have spent many years outside of Asia, particularly those raised in foreign cultures, the strong bond they maintain with their families profoundly influences their subconscious. In order to dissect these paradigms and understand how Asian women truly feel, we compare younger and older generations, as well as women who have and haven't had contact with foreigners in their hometown. We aim to shed light on women who have been abroad and those who have engaged in relationships with foreigners. Unveiling the Veiled contains years of valuable information and countless face-to-face interviews. Our intent is not to discriminate against Asian women, but rather to shed light on their behaviors while uncovering the underlying reasons behind them. By exposing these truths, we hope to foster more honest and genuine relationships. Discover the captivating stories and emotional journey of Asian women in this revealing book. Gain insight into their unique experiences and challenges, from the perspective of those who have lived it firsthand. Whether you're an avid reader or simply seeking a deeper understanding of Asian culture, Unveiling the Veiled is a must-read.

An unabashed exploration of queerness, excess, identity, and tenderness from award-winning poet Dorothy Chan. The speaker in Dorothy Chan’s fifth collection, Return of the Chinese Femme, walks through life fearlessly, “forehead forever exposed,” the East Asian symbol of female aggression. She’s the troublemaker protagonist—the “So Chinese Girl”—the queer in a family of straights— the rambunctious ringleader of the girl band, always ready with the perfect comeback, wearing a blue fur coat, drinking a whiskey neat. They indulge on the themes of food, sex, fantasy, fetish, popular culture, and intimacy. Chan organizes the collection in the form of a tasting menu, offering the reader a taste of each running theme. Triple sonnets, recipe poems, and other inventive plays on diction and form pepper the collection. Amidst the bravado, Return of the Chinese Femme represents all aspects of her identity—Asian heritage, queerness, kid of immigrants’ story—in the most real ways possible, conquering the world through joy and resilience.

Poetry. These poems are steam punk on steroids. They're plutonium-powered and neon-lit. These poems describe the world as it should be, as we want it to be, as we fear it will be, as it is every morning between 3:00 and 5:00 when our dreams are invaded by Godzilla, Tarzan, Wonder Woman, King Kong, Sinatra. If ATTACK OF THE FIFTY-FOOT CENTERFOLD were a holiday, it'd be Hallowe'en for grown-ups, Christmas for space aliens, and the Fourth of July for everybody, because each of these poems is a little present, and like the best presents, they don't just please us--they set us free.

An uproarious debut that lays bare the complicated generational relationships of Chinese American women. Raucous twin sisters Moonie and Mei Ling Wong are known as the “double happiness” Chinese food delivery girls. Each day they load up a “crappy donkey-van” and deliver Americanized (“bad”) Chinese food to homes throughout their southern California neighborhood. United in their desire to blossom into somebodies, the Wong girls fearlessly assert their intellect and sexuality, even as they come of age under the care of their dominating, cleaver-wielding grandmother from Hong Kong. They transform themselves from food delivery girls into accomplished women, but along the way they wrestle with the influence and continuity of their Chinese heritage. Marilyn Chin’s prose waxes and wanes between satire and metaphorical lyric, referencing classical Chinese tales and ghost stories that are at turns sensual, lurid, hilarious, shocking, and surreal.

Focusing on the cultural and philosophic conflation between the "oriental" and the "ornamental," Ornamentalism offers an original and sustained theory about Asiatic femininity in western culture. This study pushes our vocabulary about the woman of color past the usual platitudes about objectification and past the critique of Orientalism in order to formulate a fresher and sharper understanding of the representation, circulation, and ontology of Asiatic femininity. This book alters the foundational terms of racialized femininity by allowing us to conceptualize race and gender without being solely beholden to flesh or skin. Tracing a direct link between the making of Asiatic femininity and a technological history of synthetic personhood in the West from the nineteenth to the twenty-first century, Ornamentalism demonstrates how the construction of modern personhood in the multiple realms of law, culture, and art has been surprisingly indebted to this very marginal figure and places Asian femininity at the center of an entire epistemology of race. Drawing from and speaking to the multiple fields of feminism, critical race theory, visual culture, performance studies, legal studies, Modernism, Orientalism, Object Studies and New Materialism, Ornamentalism will leave reader with a greater understanding of what it is to exist as a "person-thing" within the contradictions of American culture.
