Excerpt from Reprint of the Minutes of the Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of Pennsylvania, Vol. 5 Volume V. of the Reprint of the Minutes begins with the meeting on June 17, 1822 and ends with the last meeting of the year 1827. It was during this period that the Grand Holy Royal Arch Chapter of Pennsylvania was allowed by a resolution adopted by the Grand Lodge, to make their own rules and regulations for the government of Royal Arch Masonry in Pennsylvania and receive fees for granting warrants to subordinate Chapters under their jurisdiction. The legislation whereby this important change was effected extends over a period of years. A Grand Lecturer was appointed and paid for visiting the Lodges throughout the State, and the report of his visitations as well as the general report in regard to minutes, elections, initiations, rejections, etc., is a very interesting paper. The visit of General La Fayette to the Grand Lodge, his being constituted a member, the addresses delivered on that occasion, and the banquet, all make a meeting of more than ordinary interest. It was also during this period that a number of country Lodges rebelled to a certain extend against the power of the Grand Lodge and the warrants of several Lodges were taken up on this account. A full account of how the differences existing were finally settled is given, together with the action of a number of subordinate Lodges on the question. The organization of a General Grand Lodge came up frequently in the reports of other Grand Lodges. This volume will be found fully as interesting to the brethren as the preceding volumes. Excerpt from Minutes of the Right Worshipful Grand Lodge of the Most Ancient Nad Honorable Fraternity of Free and Accepted Masons of Pennsylvania and Masonic Jurisdiction Thereunto Belonging, -12, Vol. 7: 1779 to 1880 This volume, the seventh issued under the direction of the Committee on Library, contains the Minutes of the Right Wor shipful Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania F. And A. M. From 1840 to 1848, both inclusive. The volumes previously published were designated Reprints of the Minutes, etc. Which title has been changed, as above, because this is the first time that the Minutes of the Grand Lodge are printed in full. The years covered by Volume VII are. Those immediately following the anti-masonic excitement, which had its rise in the State of New York in 1826, and which reached its climax in our own State in 1836. The ostensible cause of this persecution, the character of its proceedings, the violence and madness of its advocates, and its final ending are too well known to need recital here. Excerpt from Minutes of the Right Worshipful Grand Lodge of the Most Ancient and Honorable Fraternity of Free and Accepted Masons of Pennsylvania and Masonic Jurisdiction Thereunto Belonging, Vol. 12: For the Year 1875 to 1880 That the section was a violation of the law of this Grand Lodge is clear, and indeed, it was admitted by the appealing brethren to be so, but they insisted, however, that it was the Master's duty to allow the Lodge to pass upon it, and that its invalidity, or un constitutionality (taking the Ahiman Rezon as the Constitution) did not justify him in pronouncing it out of order: That under the parliamentary law, did not pertain to the merits of a proposition, but simply to those rules universally recognized, which regulate business, and enforce decorum: and that this was not a point of order which the Worshipful Master had the right to decide. Such is not the law anywhere, and most certainly it is not the Masonic Law; it is the bounden duty of the Master to enforce the laws of the Grand Lodge; to submit to the Lodge a proposition in violation of them and to run the risk of its adoption, would subject the Master to just criticism.
