Excerpt from Report of the Health of Liverpool During the Year 1879 This Act was referred to the Medical Officer to carry out in conjunction with the Veterinary Surgeon, the Inspector of Nuisances, and the Meat Inspectors. From October lst, 1878, to December 31st, 1879, Pleuro pneumonia was found in 11 cowsheds, affecting 34 cows, which were slaughtered by order of the owners or of the Corporation; and 43 cows, which were not diseased, but had been either in contact with the affected ones or in the same cowsheds, were slaughtered by order of the owners. Pig Typhoid was found amongst the swine imported from Ireland and America. The disease was detected in 30 Irish pigs and 2 American.
