The National Tribal Relations Task Force's "A Vision for the Future," provided a set of recommendations designed to improve the consistency and effectiveness of program delivery and to institutionalize long-term collaborative relationships with tribal governments. The recommendations were focused on pervasive problems and concerns that surfaced repeatedly in different contexts and were symptomatic of underlying problems in working relationships between the Forest Service and the Tribes. The Deputy Chief for State and Private Forestry established the National Tribal Relations Program Implementation Team in April 2001 to implement the recommendations of the Task Force. This report addresses 12 specific issues and concludes that "the vast majority of these actions can be implemented by administrative actions using exisiting authorities."
