The methods and results at the Pittsburg, California, test highway are herein presented for the benefit of those who are interested in the construction of public highways. The present report reflects largely the viewpoint of the engineers who were in complete charge of the tests but it has been to some extent edited by the California Highway Commission and the U.S. Bureau of Public Roads.

Vols. for Jan. 1896-Sept. 1930 contain a separately page section of Papers and discussions which are published later in revised form in the society's Transactions. Beginning Oct. 1930, the Proceedings are limited to technical papers and discussions, while Civil engineering contains items relating to society activities, etc.
