Estos hombres se muestran insatisfechos con la gestión de su tiempo. Desean disponer de más tiempo para sí mismos, para la pareja, para la familia; pero no consiguen sacar ese tiempo de su situación real. El contexto de trabajo se presenta como una presión continua y una demanda de presencia y de compromiso que hace que estos hombres sean cada vez más dependientes del trabajo. La realidad es que estos hombres, sobre todo los que ocupan cargos directivos, trabajan mucho y el trabajo termina adentrándose en la esfera privada y colonizando el espacio familiar. Asimismo parece que para muchos de estos hombres, el trabajo sigue siendo lo primero y es más importante que la familia.

The study points to a heavy workload having strong repercussions on the well-being of the family. Modern men are faced with an "invisible dilemma" which emerges when they try to reconcile their work with their family obligations. These men are dissatisfi ed with how they manage their time. They want more time for themselves, for their partners and for their families, but they are unable to fi nd it in their current circumstances. Work is seen as a continuous pressure which requires their presence and commitment and which makes these men more and more dependent on their jobs. The reality is that these men, and particularly those who occupy management positions, spend a lot of time working and their jobs end up making inroads into their private lives and colonizing the family ambit. It also seems that for many of these men work continues to be their number one priority and is more important than the family.

This edition of the World Bank has been revised and expanded by the Terminology Unit in the Languages Services Division of the World Bank in collaboration with the English, Spanish, and French Translation Sections. The Glossary is intended to assist the Bank's translators and interpreters, other Bank staff using French and Spanish in their work, and free-lance translator's and interpreters employed by the Bank. For this reason, the Glossary contains not only financial and economic terminology and terms relating to the Bank's procedures and practices, but also terms that frequently occur in Bank documents, and others for which the Bank has a preferred equivalent. Although many of these terms, relating to such fields as agriculture, education, energy, housing, law, technology, and transportation, could be found in other sources, they have been assembled here for ease of reference. A list of acronyms occurring frequently in Bank texts (the terms to which they refer being found in the Glossary) and a list of international, regional, and national organizations will be found at the end of the Glossary.

The North American Mosaic has four overarching features. First, it is, to the extent feasible, based on comparable information on the status and trends of major indicators of the state of the environment in Canada,Mexico, and the United States. Second, the report confirms that these three countries together make up an incredibly complex, dynamic, and interconnected ecosystem in which humans play a dominant and decisive role. Third, the report raises important and sometimes disquieting questions concerning the sustainability of some current trends. Finally, the report is a reminder that our economic, social, and physical well-being are utterly dependent on the life-sustaining services provided by nature. This report emphasizes the importance of developing mutually compatible economic, social, and environmental goals and policies across the three-country region.

Single mothers caring for dependent children are an important and increasing population in industrialized countries. In some, single mothers are seen primarily as mothers and few have paid work; in others, they are regarded as workers and most have paid work; and sometimes they are seen as an uneasy combination of the two with varying proportions taking up paid work.; This edited collection explores these variations, focusing on the interaction between dominant discourses around single motherhood, state policies towards single mothers, the structure of the labour market at national and local levels, and neighbourhood supports and constraints.
