The CDF detector collected during 1992-95 (Run I) a data sample of 110 pb−1 p{bar p} collisions at a center of mass energy (square root)s = 1.8 TeV. A large variety of physical studies and measurements has been performed using these data. The current paper wants to review results obtained using this data sample as well as discuss the CDF-II upgrades and physical potential of the upgraded CDF Detector (CDF-II) in the Run II.

The status of the CDF II experiment is described. Since operations start-up for run II data taking in March 2001, the CDF detector has been commissioned using about 20 pb−1 of data provided by the Tevatron (utilized about 4-8). Most detector components are ready for physics quality data. The goal is to present the first physics results by summer-fall 2002.

After a five year upgrade period, the CDF detector located at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider is back in operation taking high quality data with all subsystems functional. We report on the status of the CDF experiment in Run II and discuss the start-up of the Tevatron accelerator. First physics results from CDF are presented. We also discuss the prospects for B physics in RunII, in particular the measurements of B{sub S}° flavour oscillations and CP violation in B decays.

Results based on data collected by the Collider Detector at Fermilab (CDF) during the Tevatron Collider run now in progress are presented. The results cover analyses of W → e?{sub e} and Z → ee−,?+?− event candidates, and discuss the status of the CDF top quark search. Preliminary results from studies of events containing a high E{sub T} electron and muon or a high E{sub T} electron plus ≥ 2 jets indicate that it is unlikely that the top quark mass is in the range 30 ≤ M {sub top} ≤ 60 GeV/c2 assuming Standard Model charged current decay. 4 refs., 13 figs.

This paper reports on the most recent results from the Collider Detector Facility (CDF) from 110 pb−1 of data taken at the Fermilab Tevatron from 1992 to 1995. Improved measurements of B meson spectroscopy, lifetimes, and searches for new particle states are presented. Evidence for the effectiveness of same side tagging techniques in the context of mixing measurements is shown with applicability for CP violation studies in Run-II explained. The planned upgrades of importance to {ital b} physics for Run-II are briefly detailed with an emphasis on the expected physics reach in Run-II by CDF.
