How do media inform our representations of the Other and how does this influence intercultural / international relations? While officially dialogues between different national societies are conducted by diplomats in bilateral and multilateral settings, in practice journalists also participate every day in such dialogues through the phenomenon of the “international media echo” in which they report on each others’ societies. Until now, media have only been investigated for their potential role in the foreign policy of specific states. In a case study involving media in three national cultures and languages (French, American and Russian), this book presents an interdisciplinary framework that combines quantitative and qualitative analyses for the study of the international media echo in an intercultural / international relations perspective. In particular, the fundamental functioning of “spirals of anti-Other rhetoric”, i.e. media wars, is examined in a Critical Discourse Analysis approach completed with Social Identity Theory and International Relations theories.

The first twenty years of the Fifth Republic encompass four presidential elections, alternating political control of the National Assembly, and years of rapid economic growth and contraction. Looking into the areas of government, politics, economy, society, culture, and foreign policy, this volume gives the reader an understanding of the considerable impact of Charles de Gaulle's administration on contemporary France.

J.M.G. Le Clézio et la métaphore exotique propose une analyse détaillée et approfondie de l'oeuvre de J.M.G. Le Clézio, prix Nobel de littérature 2008. La question de la « métaphore exotique » sert ici de fil conducteur et permet d'éclairer le corpus leclézien d'un triple point de vue textuel, anthropologique et psychanalytique. L'inscription problématique de l'espace et du voyage domine en effet toute la production littéraire de Le Clézio; et cette inscription s'accompagne d'une certaine ambiguïté générique. D'une part l'analyse montre que l'écriture du voyage fonctionne chez Le Clézio, comme chez Segalen, comme une « écriture des limites », c'est-à-dire comme un déplacement du sujet et du sens. Mais d'autre part l'analyse montre que l'écriture du voyage dessine chez Le Clézio un rapport singulier et ambivalent à l'espace postmoderne, au désenchantement du monde et à la disparition des grands mythes fondateurs, interrogeant l'acte même de la création littéraire. A la fois humaniste et antidogmatique, l'oeuvre de J.M.G. Le Clézio se situe ainsi de façon originale dans les marges des grands mouvements littéraires du XXe et du XXIe siècle, du Nouveau Roman des années 60 à la « littérature-monde » d'aujourd'hui.
