This sounds a strange title for a book, but currently, there are five surviving German Panther tanks in America. This book examines the restored Panther tank at the American Heritage Museum, Hudson, MA and the four held by the U.S. Army Armor and Cavalry Collection, Fort Benning, GA, including the Panther II.

During the summer of 1944 a series of massive Soviet offensives threatened to destroy the entire German army on the Eastern Front. As the Wehrmacht scrambled to hold what ground it could many formations simply disappeared and the available armoured units were used to plug the gaps in the frontline. The Panzer IV programme was started in 1934, forming, alongside the Panzer IIs and IIIs, the schnellen Truppen, the force that was to become the Panzerwaffe.
