The proceedings blend current and future two-photon physics. Developments since the last Photon-Photon Workshop four years ago are summarized, and the future of the field is projected, not only at existing accelerators, but also at heavy-ion colliders B-factories, and especially linear colliders with back-scattered laser beams.

The proceedings report results on all aspects of high energy photon interactions on photon, proton and Pomeron targets. There are significant contributions from the LEP experiments, from ZEUS and H1, from CLEO II and from the TRISTAN experiments in Japan, accompanied by extensive theoretical discussion and predictions for future gamma-gamma colliders.

This proceedings contains the talks delivered at the plenary and parallel sessions. Topics covered include e⁺e⁻ Physics at Z0, String Theory and Theory of Extended Objects, High Energy pp Physics, Non-Accelerator Particle Physics, Conformal Field Theory, e⁺e⁻ Physics below Z⁰, Structure Functions and Deep Inelastic Scattering, Neutrino Physics, Recent Developments in 2-Dimensional Gravity, Lattice Gauge Theory and Computer Simulations, CP Violation , Accelerator Physics, Cosmology and Particle Physics, Interface Between Particle and Condensed Matter Physics, Detector R&D, and Astroparticle Physics.

This international conference focussed on several exciting frontier areas of particle physics at energy scales not realizable in terrestrial accelerators and their significance in the fields of astrophysics and cosmology. The topics discussed included physics beyond the standard model, violations of discrete symmetries, neutrino physics, neutrino astronomy, experimental detection of dark matter, gravitation and feebler new forces, cosmic rays, etc. Some of the highlights are the latest results from the Kamiokande neutrino detector and status reports on experimental facilities under commission to detect solar and atmospheric neutrinos, WIMP's and dark matter candidates.

These proceedings consist of plenary rapporteur talks covering topics of major interest to the high energy physics community and parallel sessions papers which describe recent research results and future plans.

This volume reports on all aspects of high energy photon interactions using both photon and proton targets. Significant new results from the LEP and HERA experiments as well as from CLEO II and BELLE are presented. These data are confronted with diverse theoretical models. In particular, predictions of QCD in both the perturbative and the non-perturbative sector are extensively discussed. The first precision measurements on CP violation in the B system are reported. Both the BELLE and the BABAR collaboration presented, among others, results for sin 2ß with much improved accuracy. Results from the Sudbury Neutrino Observatory, SNO, also deserve to be mentioned. The convincing evidence of solar neutrino oscillations had been presented by SNO prior to the conference; a full presentation was given at the conference. An incredibly precise measurement of the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon is reported, a fresh result from the Brookhaven National Laboratory. Apart from these distinct physics highlights, there are also the first results from the new Tevatron run and from the relativistic heavy ion collider RHIC. Theorists write of our ever better understanding of the Standard Model and of what might lie beyond. Risky as it is to highlight only a couple of exciting subjects, it is merely meantto whet the appetite for further reading.
