The conference focused on the current status of baryon spectroscopy, form factors and structure functions, electroweak interactions and symmetries, strange and exotic states, chiral perturbation theory, heavy quark physics, and medium modifications, through plenary session summaries and reviews and parallel session reports of recent experimental and theoretical advances. Plans for future facilities and upgrades were highlighted in special plenary sessions.

WEIN '98 focussed on searches for physics beyond the Standard Model of elementary particles at low and medium energies, including theoretical studies in these areas. In addition, selected topics in the physics of the Standard Model, searches for new physics at high energy facilities, and topics in nuclear and particle astrophysics were discussed. The conference was mainly composed of plenary talks reviewing the present status of the field. The proceedings include written versions of these plenary talks plus several invited talks given at the parallel sessions covering specific topics that could not be included in the plenary sessions.

The aim of the DANF conference was to present and discuss new theoretical and experimental results in the field of nuclear fission dynamics. The conference program was designed to cover a wide range of physical phenomena including spontaneous and induced fission at low and intermediate energies and fragmentation of hot nuclei. Among the topics discussed at the conference were: the development of various theories, experiments on the synthesis of superheavy elements, fusion-fission processes and the decay of complex nuclear systems, binary and ternary fission, nuclear structure of neutron-rich nuclei and the peculiarities of exotic nuclear reactions. Attention was also paid to the recent progress in developing radioactive ion beam facilities. The development of new methods was also on the conference agenda.

The investigation of hadronic and nuclear probes with protons and electrons in the energy range of a few GeV is of great importance for the understanding of the properties of nucleons and mesons as well as of their interaction. Experimental results from studies with these beams provide the basis for the development and the tests of theoretical approaches in the energy regime of non-perturbative QCD. They can also clarify the effect of the nuclear medium on elementary reactions. The conference has reviewed the present status of this field of research. This volume contains the proceedings of the above meeting which attracted over 100 physicists from the United States, Canada, and Europe. MRST-94 explored a wide variety of current issues ranging from the formal aspects of theoretical high-energy physics (conformal field theory, strings, supersymmetry, black holes, new field-theoretic techniques, non-perturbative methods, and finite-temperature field theory) to the more phenomenological (mass generation, heavy quarks, CP violation, weak decays, neutrino physics, cosmic phenomena, heavy-ion physics, collider physics, and issues surrounding the recent evidence for the top quark).
