The concept of university language centres has changed in recent decades. Initially conceived as laboratories for practical and autonomous language-learning, they are now considered as places with more specific and complex functions in language teaching and learning. Les besoins de communication entre personne ne parlant pas la même langue augmentent. Le recours à une langue commune est loin de faire l'unanimité. Mais il reste difficile d'acquérir les compétences nécessaires pour s'exprimer dans une autre langue. Il semble nécessaire de réfléchir à l'amélioration de cet enseignement. La didactique est un ensemble de méthodes permettant à l'enseignant d'optimiser les processus d'apprentissage d'une langue étrangère et ce volume présente ces méthodes.

L'enseignement des langues étrangères, désormais prescrit dans les programmes de l'école élémentaire, est devenu indiscutable.
