Chairman Sawyer and distinguished members of the subcommittee, I welcome this opportunity to appear before you and report on the continuing work of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Fed eral Holiday Commission. I have prepared a detailed summary of the work of the Commis sion which I am submitting with my testimony. I am also submit ting a copy of our 1992 annual report on the observance of the King holiday which will illustrate the successes achieved by the Commission. This information will also highlight some of the im portant challenges which remain to be addressed in our efforts to the make the King holiday all it should be.
