In Our Children, Their Children, a prominent team of researchers argues that a second-rate and increasingly punitive juvenile justice system is allowed to persist because most people believe it is designed for children in other ethnic and socioeconomic groups. While public opinion, laws, and social policies that convey distinctions between "our children" and "their children" may seem to conflict with the American ideal of blind justice, they are hardly at odds with patterns of group differentiation and inequality that have characterized much of American history. Our Children, Their Children provides a state-of-the-science examination of racial and ethnic disparities in the American juvenile justice system. Here, contributors document the precise magnitude of these disparities, seek to determine their causes, and propose potential solutions. In addition to race and ethnicity, contributors also look at the effects on juvenile justice of suburban sprawl, the impact of family and neighborhood, bias in postarrest decisions, and mental health issues. Assessing the implications of these differences for public policy initiatives and legal reforms, this volume is the first critical summary of what is known and unknown in this important area of social research.

Two seasoned parents share the personal story of how they made conscious, faithful choices to raise six successful and courageous children. Michelle and Jim Capra have given all parents a precious, practical gift by sharing their own honest journey to create six children of character. Their struggles to develop habits of excellence, accountability, and moral standards in a loving, godly way are lessons for us all. I only wish I had read this book when I was raising my own children! Barbara A. Glanz Hall of Fame Speaker and Author of "Priceless Gifts - Using What God's Given You to Bless Others" As parents to six children, what really resonates with me about James and Michelle Capra's book, 'Raising Courageous Children in a Cowardly Culture', is their candidness. I truly appreciate that he withstands the tide of political correctness and states what parents today really need to hear. This is the go-to resource for raising upright children. The Handbook Preparing Your Child for the Journey Through Adolescence makes parents aware of and seeks to help to understand the hardships that await all adolescents in those trying, though exciting years. It goes further to help parents understand their children in totality, to guide parents on how to invest in their children while their children are still young in order to equip them for the trying years that wait ahead. For those whose children have already reached the stage of adolescence the Handbook offers parents guidance as to how to stay involved in their adolescents lives, and how to identify problems the adolescent may be experiencing. An interesting list of Principles for life and a comprehensive list of South African resources are provided to facilitate access to professional help. This book provides all the information needed to teach your children wholesome, Godly principles. It is a fantastic resource. I highly recommend this book to all parents. In school districts across the country, children of color earn sub-par test scores, and are frequently relegated to less challenging classes. Low achievement will doom our children to a future far beneath their capabilities—unless we do something about it. In this updated edition of Achievement Matters, Hugh B. Price, the former President of the National Urban League, shows you how to help your child succeed, and make America's public schools accountable. A vital resource for parents and caregivers, here are practical tips for improving children's literacy and achievement levels while instilling a lifelong enthusiasm for education. Price explains how to make sure your child isn't missing out on essential courses, recommends proven techniques for cutting through bureaucracy to create an environment conducive to learning, and shares insightful personal stories. From using the latest technology to providing after-school and summer programs to give our youth direction and keep them away from drugs and violence, this book offers real tools for making a powerful, positive impact and guiding your child to the brightest possible future.
