Quick Look Nursing: Obstetric and Pediatric Pathophysiology is a quick reference book that works well as a supplement to other text books. It covers areas such as Neuro, Immune System, Endocrine, and Respiratory. It's great for Pediatric and OB clinical courses, ADN and BSN students, and nursing staff development departments. Organized by a body system approach, each section begins with a brief review of anatomy and physiology and includes a listing of diagnostic measures pertinent to that system.

The course of history is never one of smooth progression. Periods of relative quietness are interrupted by periods of wars and revolution. This pattern resembles that of a river which, before flowing into the delta, has to pass countless rapids. The same holds for the development of the science of medicine. In obstetrics some of these 'revolutions' or 'rapids' consist of the introduction of conservative obstetrical treatment by Lucas Johann Boer at the beginning of the nineteenth century, the discovery of the cause of puerperal sepsis by Oliver Wendell Holmes and Semmelweiss between 1843 and 1847, the introduction of the principle of asepsis by Pasteur in 1874, the introduction of prenatal care at the end of the nine teenth and the beginning of the twentieth century (Mijnlieff, Treub, De Snoo), the improvement of surgical techniques, the possibility to treat shock by bloodtransfusion, and, finally, the acquisition of new means for the effective therapy of infection. All these developments have led to a sharp reduction of maternal and perinatal mortality. In this connection it must be pointed out that such a reduction could never have been accomplished without the favourable social changes as a result of which medical and prenatal care could be made universally available. In recent years there has been another revolutionary develop ment in obstetrics. Two factors have been responsible for this: the ap plication of basic sciences in obstetrics, and the dissolution of the isolation with respect to other clinical disciplines.

This fifth edition of a successful book provides an overview of fetal and perinatal pathology, concentrating on common problems, especially where the anatomical pathology findings guide the direction of further investigations. A new feature of this edition is an emphasis on the molecular aspects of pathology in the perinatal setting. There are four new chapters, including one on the genetic and epigenetic basis of development and disease, and over 300 new illustrations. The format of the book remains the same as previous editions with the first half covering general areas in perinatal pathology. The second half is based on organ systems and covers specific pathological entities, now including discussion of the relevant molecular pathology. There is extensive cross-referencing between chapters. Keeling’s Fetal and Neonatal Pathology, 5th edition is aimed at the practising pathologist who is called upon to provide a perinatal pathology service. It is also a valuable resource for the pathology trainee and a reference for obstetricians, maternal and fetal medicine specialists, neonatologists, paediatricians and forensic pathologists.

The fourth edition of the classic reference in the field of fetal and neonatal pathology, this revised and updated book retains the overall format of previous editions, presenting the same practical approach to the examination of both fetuses and perinatal deaths. It provides essential clinical and pathophysiological information and discusses the pathogenesis of abnormalities as a basis for appropriate methods of investigation. While primarily addressing the morbid anatomist and histopathologist, it is also a valuable resource for obstetricians, neonatologists and paediatricians.
